Is there an adaptor for the portable Rivian charger to plug into an RV outlet? I recently bought some property and there is an RV outlet and wondering if an adapter would work or am I better off just changing the otulet to fit the Rivian travel charger. Not ready to put a dedicated charger out there yet since not sure how much I will use it. Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

Only if it is a 14-50. If it is a TT30, you are best off getting a Tesla cord and the TT30 adapter, or just springing for the whole NEMA kit if you want to be able to charge from all outlets.

Yes. "Parkworld 63289 EV Charging Adapter NEMA TT-30P to 14-50R Straight Type" has worked for me with the Rivian portable charger. You'll have to set the truck to only draw 24A. It isn't super fast but fast enough if you are staying the night.

If you chose to use this potentially dangerous solution, PLEASE monitor the heat at the outlet carefully during use. Most TT30s found in campgrounds are aging if not worn out, and running them 24a can cause a lot of heat and worse. This method lacks the heat and voltage monitoring found in the Tesla setup.

Yes, yes. Everything except the Tesla charger is a dangerous hazard. Open differentials are the pinnacle of traction control. Almost every thread. I almost didn't post because of your energetic and confident incorrectness.

Rivian R1T R1S RV outlet adapter? 1000001856

You were saying?

I have been doing this stuff for decades. Ignore those that traveled the road before you at your own peril.

If you are aware of a temperature/voltage monitored mobile EVSE other than the one Tesla sells, please share. Honestly, I have looked.

@R.I.P. - I appreciate your comments and you clearly understand the do's and don'ts of charging. The Tesla cord is only 20' long - do you have a suggestion when you can't get the Rivian within 20' of the dryer outlet?

Absolutely. I use this NACS extension cable that is made to take the load, and is easy to use:

Lectron Tesla Extension Cord -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B99CQVQ6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

You can also buy them in. J1772 flavor, but since everything's working towards NACS anyway...

Thank you - that was the piece I was missing and, from what I've seen as we've stayed at relatives and VRBO's, it will give me the reach to get to the car. Thanks again!

TT-30 to 14-50 for EV but you can't pull anymore than 24 amps out of there.

My website has the ShockFlo charger and other accessories. The ShockFlo is what we travel with as that tells me my voltage as well as allows me to adjust amperage on the charger vs having to do it in the energy screen on the truck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't TT-30 on 120V? So even though it may draw at 24amps, you're still limited to 2.9kW right? So while more than level 1 charging, it ain't much.

@sdemeester please most a pic of the said RV plug AND the breaker.

Correct. It works great for multi-day trips though. Two nights will typically get me back up into the 90% range depending on charge level when we arrived. I don't like getting to a campsite with zero percent left in case they have a problem with us charging there. Hasn't happened yet, luckily. Ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

We avoid KOA's because it seems to be SOP that they don't want EVs charging.

As Riviot said, post a pic because there are two RV receptacles and the rivian adapter comes with one of them. I use the Parkwood adapter for tt30 as well and I'm perfectly happy with it. It will only do about 25% charge over night.
Rivian R1T R1S RV outlet adapter? 20240104_182030

However since it's your property, it should be trivial to rewire the outlet for something twice as good if you have a tt30. You should have a dedicated 30a breaker using #10 wire. Buy a 30a double pole breaker, Mark the neutral with another color and wire to the second pole, install a 14-30r in place of the tt30.

If the wire is #8 then buy a 40a double pole and a 14-50r for 32a continuous. #6 go to a 50a or 60a depending on the wire type.

An electrician can sort this for you.

This is the best answer. Get one that specifically says it's for Teslas or EVs and dial down the amps to 24 tops. Most RV sites don't have good maintenance with their gear so it might be good to take it down to 16A.
