Genuine question here (I love my R1T, love the company, and wish nothing but the best for Rivian, so please don’t hate me for this question haha).

What was the point in announcing supercharger access when adapters are months down the line? Even in the new video posted to their IG, Wassym mentions more access to superchargers but we can’t use them unless we buy a third party adapter.

Was that just a business ploy to attract more customers? Trying to understand the point there.

Understand the frustration but I'm glad they were able to announce and open it with Tesla when they did. Since I also have a Mach-e I quickly discovered that Tesla was not going to fulfill demand through the different OEM's for some time. I got an A2Z adapter and made my eclipse trip super easy compared to non Tesla network only.

I got my Ford Tesla adapter last week so hopefully Rivian can start delivering about a month later after announcement just like Ford did.

The software is in place and it works. That's a pretty important aspect of it. The big issue now is Rivian isn't making the adapters themselves, and they are dependent on Tesla to deliver on it.

Rivian is likely well on their way to getting the supply chain in place for native NACS ports, and the need for the adapters is going to dwindle significantly starting in 2025, so Tesla has no real reason to ramp their supply capability up in any significant way, and Rivian has no real reason to bring that production in-house either.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
As an owner who wants to see that feature available, I want to hear from the OEM that it’s on the roadmap. This helps maintain brand loyalty.

As a shareholder, I want to know that Rivian is making smart financial decisions. This is a smart move because it telegraphs intent while product is being rolled out.

Pre-announcements of major initiatives are very, very common.

How has your experience been so far with the A2Z? Looking good so far but always good to hear more feedback!

How long did it take for you to receive the ford adapter from when you opted in?

Totally understand from that perspective. No point in ramping up when adapters will be less needed. I just don’t understand announcing access to something we technically can’t use yet

I ordered an A2Z back in early March thinking I'd have it for my eclipse trip, but it showed up the day I returned. ?‍♂ Oh well, didn't have any issues, but would've been nice to have the adapter as a backup if I needed it. I was able to plan the trip in an area with decent charging instead of venturing further south in Illinois or Missouri where Tesla was really the only game in town.

Great point. That makes sense

For those of us planning summer trips or are risk adverse, we (even if we have to invest in 3rd party solution) like having the assurance of knowing we can use Tesla superchargers. Makes longer range planning WAY easier.

It has been great. Easy to use and has worked perfectly.

I found out within 30 minutes so was about 400th in queue. They stated April delivery and got mine on the 8th. Some have been quoted up to September that I last saw. They were around 50k on the list.

Sorry to hear that. I got mine 4 days prior. Glad the trip still went well.

Totally get that and will definitely be using my A2Z when it comes. Just hoping it doesn’t cause any issues

I'm not the original poster, but in the same boat. A2Z has worked great with my F-150 Lightning. Flawless (other than I had to experiment a couple times to get the locking mechanism to work - now that I know how "locked" feels I have no issues).

My Ford-supplied Tesla adapter arrived two weeks ago-ish, but I was order #93 and Ford is filling orders by date/time placed. I was fortunate to order in the first few minutes after the announcement was made. Best part of that is that we just got an R1T as my wife's daily-driver and I'm going to put the Tesla-made adapter in it.

Haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I'm sure it'll work just fine as well.

Have used my A2Z adapter several times and it worked well. The lever/switch to secure it to the NACS cable is a bit clunky and took me a couple of tries. But once i got that going it worked perfectly. Now i have gone from planning my trip ahead of time to not really worrying too much, at least in the areas where i drive. Amazing that the Tesla adapters actually show accurate counts of the available stations and that the dollar cost for charging displays on the screen also.

Received my adapter around March 27th. Ordered March 4.

I think anyone looking to buy an EV strongly considers how they will fast charge on the road. Getting stranded is about the worst thing a car can do to you. Knowing that Rivian is compatible with Tesla makes that investment decision on par with a Tesla purchase for that aspect of the purchase decision. I'll bet new Rivians come with the adapter. For the rest of us, knowing our investment in a CCS car was not in vain, we will get an adapter delivered eventually. That being said, my A2Z adapter is a couple days away from delivery. I know some people want the official adapter but I look at it that my Rivian charges off non Rivian (or Tesla) hardware all the time. I look at whether the company and hardware I'm dealing with is reputable, be it A2Z, EA, EVGO, Autel, Chargepoint etc. I wasn't willing to wait six months to get an adapter. I'd rather remove a little more stress of driving an EV over an ICE.
