Yes, I know it's a little rectangular light that turns on when the gear tunnel is open, but what are you trying to know?
Not trying to hijack the thread, but my gear tunnel lights stay off if the truck is off. For example: I'm in the garage, I need a tool, I pop the gear tunnel with the app (not unlocking the truck) the lights stay off. Assume this is normal?

Shame there isn't a manual switch for gear tunnel lights (even if it was on a timer), just so I could turn them on when working, for example. ?

Purpose - We are taking a three hour trip with out two cats. The litter box is in the gear tunnel and the little hatch between the rear cabin and gear tunnel will remain open for them to come and go, from the gear tunnel. For this reason, I would like to have some low power LED light on in there for the duration of the trip.
Man, unless it's something you're going to do a lot of, I think your path of least resistance is just a 12v light.

Not a fan of walmart, but this was the first thing I could find: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prime-Products-12-0519-Flexible-12V-Reading-Lamp/45863513

I suggest a light strip. I don't think that the Gear Tunnel light can be energized the way you want.

As a cat owner myself, I think that's a solid idea. You might want to just go low tech and get a dim rechargeable light. I'm sure they won't need too much light back there to find their way.
But, but, but, I want to utilize the features offered by the R1T! Sure, a flashlight would work, but I prefer a more high tech solution - or the simplest solution - just leaving the damn dome light on like you used to be able to do on ICE cars (push a mechanical button or toggle a mechanical switch)....

You can try the dome lights and see if that clicks the tunnel on, but I'm thinking it won't...

I wouldn't consider the gear tunnel light to be the same as the interior dome light -- which you can leave on while the vehicle is running. The gear tunnel light is more akin to having a light in the frunk. Its only purpose is to provide some light for you to rummage through the storage compartment in the dark.

For your sake, I hope the litter box is the enclosed type, so the cats don't miss and spray the lining in the tunnel. Cats have excellent low-light vision. If that center access hatch is open, and there is light in the cabin, they have enough light to see (in addition to their sense of smell).

I've got my fingers crossed for that tunnel lining!

Though, if you do have to remove it later, take good photos! might help the rest of us in the future. ;)

Hey there! For keeping the gear tunnel light or the 120v power outlet on while driving, it's best to check your vehicle's manual or reach out to the manufacturer. They'll have the most accurate info for your specific model. If there's no direct way to keep them on, a small battery-powered LED light could be a handy alternative for your trip with your cats.
