I’d say secret option three is also on the table - pull the plastic panels off.

Only reason I am 6'3" wife is 5 9"...trying to convince her to sell her suburban drive the R1S and I can get a T...she isn't a fan of brake regen...
LOL! My wife is 5'1... So your expressed use case is VERY compelling!

She drives the Y as her everyday.

Rivian has worked on my car several times since I installed the running boards. I've also done 2 tire swaps at discount tire, and been to a body shop. No one has said anything about the running boards.
Thanks, Sub. Very helpful! Have you noted any impact to energy efficiency?

I find it so weird that Rivian doesn't offer this as an option with something custom made.

I moved from a 2022 purchased quad to a 2023 perf dual max lease and will have to employ option number 3 to keep using my running boards.

I did the 4" hole method install as it was quicker. I also put some waterproof pool liner tape over the holes and that's held up well.

Mine experienced some rusting over the winter but EV sport line was good about sending a replacement. I haven't installed the replacements yet as I recently pulled a muscle in my back and the thought of laying down there and doing that job right now is not appealing.

oh yeah...I went with the triple slot method as I felt the larger holes would provide better traction for shoes on them (in rain and snow) as the lugs on the shoes will have more bite.

My oldest is 21 and I have a 17 and 14 y/o.. I keep telling the wife we do not need a Suburban any more my 2 oldest don't want to be seen with their parents unless food is involved..My Bulldog appreciates the entire back seat to him self

I'm curious about getting running boards installed to make it easier for the wife and kids to get in and out of the R1S.

Are there any trade offs/issues with service later on that need to be considered?
I am getting ready to have mine serviced for a comprehensive inspection and tire rotation and called just to be sure. Mine are yet to be installed coming in, in a few days. The rep talked to his manager who had boards installed and says it can be an issue depending on what’s being done. Worse case scenario you remove them for the service then reinstall.

Do they still have the rusting issue??
My rock sliders have been through a Vermont winter on dirt roads and are doing well. There are a couple of fasteners showing slight surface rust but structure is all good.

This is what I did, for 2 reasons... 3 actually, in order of priority.

1) I don't care, you can't see under it normally anyways
2) If I wanted to take the boards off later, when I sell it, I could put it back to stock with no holes
3) It's more work.
