Such a bummer that I can't power my house with this massive battery.

Yes big miss by Rivian. Your best bet is to buy a portable AC unit, long extension cord and plug it into the 120V outlet in the Rivian. I don't know anyone that tested one to make sure it wouldn't overload the outlet but that should provide some relief in one small room in your house. Big downside is that it likely uses at least twice the electricity as your mini split so use it sparingly. Other option is to go into the Rivian and sit in there with the ac on.
Running something like an A/C unit off an extension cord is more likely to damage the A/C unit due to a voltage drop caused by the extension cord. Always use as short an extension cord as possible, and get the heaviest extension cord you can (8 awg if possible).

RJ and Wassym confirmed it’s coming this year to all R1s. I know that doesn't help you now, but it’s good to know. You will need to do an up fit at your circuit breaker to send power back to the house, as the current wall box doesn’t support V2H.

Or hang out in the Rivian. If one has an R1S, you could even sleep in it. :)

We lost power the past few days during Hurricane Beryl. This really would have come in handy. As it is, I had an extension cord running from the vehicle running the fridge, freezer, router, fans, etc. Saved us hundreds in groceries that would have spoiled otherwise.
Just got power back in the Heights after the hurricane. The R1T was a savior and workhorse. Powered the fridge, two window units so we could sleep in cool rooms, charged devices, delivered gas to relatives needing gas for generators, and even got some work trips in.

The V2H will be great later this year. I definitely changed some people’s minds on owning “a silly electric toy car.” Coworkers making comments like “Guess Casey won’t make it in tomorrow because we lost power….hahahaha”

Then I showed them my set up and percentage Used overnight…..

They were silent

Thank You Rivian. You made this chaos easier to navigate.

I have been waiting for rivian to put out a vehicle to grid charger for 2 years.
It's ridiculous. I can't use this power supply when I want to load shed my house or to use it power it if I desire.
A tesla power wall is useless when I have over a hundred kilowatts to use as I desire.
The standards are just being finalized. Be patient. Rivian said it’s coming.

What do you think about using an EcoFlow 6500 watts, while charging EcoFlow from Rivian? From what I see, it should be possible and only costs 2k. You may have to cycle the AC a bit though. Or set a higher temp if it's an inverter AC. Or just get a Honda ?

And Kia is rolling out its V2H in the next quarter or so.
Exactly, let alone the current available V2L on the HMG EVs (IONIQ 5 etc.) rated at 3.6kW, ~3600 watts if I remember correctly.

It's a huge miss on Rivian's part. For a REI crowd focused EV with Rivian being all about that Adventurous lifestyle, having the plug sitting at only 1500w was an oversight.

The Ford Lightning eats the R1x for lunch in this department. It's really amazing having all of those outlets to use. Hopefully Rivian will beef up the outlets and add more like a 14-50 that's on the CT in a future refresh.

CT already has a 14-50 in the bed. I was surprised and impressed.

My guess is Rivian had a meeting to decide whether to include an air compressor or a 240v outlet, and they chose the air compressor as it was easier to market to the off road crowd. But I think more people can make use of a 240v outlet. A portable air compressor gets the job done to fill the tires. I know which one I prefer.

You can always buy a 3rd party compressor. People have been doing that for decades. But you can’t buy a 3rd party 240V outlet or V2H capability! ?

Big miss indeed. Should have been done in Gen 2. Lightning & Cybertruck can both do it and here I am with my Rivian feeling like an idiot.
Yeah, but then you’d be driving around in a Lightning or a Cybertruck feeling like an idiot for a host of other reasons… ;-)

This was just discussed during their investor day livestream. Gen1 and Gen2 R1s can provide 24kW of power with the current hardware. R2s will provide 11kW. Supposed to coming in a future upgrade along with the hardware that will be required to connect it to your home.

We're also in Cypress. I did the exact same thing...3x fridges full of groceries, fans, networking gear, and some lights. Besides saving a ton of $$$ keeping food cold, the biggest win was keeping the internets on. We could work and the kiddo didn't notice the higher temps in the house b/c he was nose-to-screen the whole time.

I can't wait to get a V2H setup. I get angry every time I look on the roof and see my useless solar panels when the grid is down. The big ole R1T battery is the missing piece that I've been planning since the beginning.

Just remember if you back feed your panel to the house you will have to have a disconnect switch between your house and the power lines. That will be an additional expense for home owners and apartment dwellers probably can't use something like that. Without a disconnect you risk killing the lineman with your power source when they are working on the lines. Same thing with a generator.

They have announced support for this, coming s00n. I think it is basically DC out from the Rivian to a big ass inverter to turn it into AC.
