I don't think this is the case at all. Apple and Google just don't "give" away CP/AA. It may be monetarily free but I am sure there are a lot of stipulations added on what functionality you can have vs CP/AA. Apple and Google want to control your car, not just add a window on top.

As much as I want CP or AA I trust Rivian more and Apple or Google (for now).
I think you're missing my point. Rivian is offering a subscription service for similar functionality that most others get with CP/AA. That's why I'm saying that they'll never offer it....because they are going to be making money from the subscriptions.

Understood, hopefully it's possible to do it while driving and not just parking. Not sure how they will differentiate the casting of certain apps so you can't watch video while driving but you can cast music.
As it's illegal (at least in my home state of Illinois), I'm not optimistic casting VDO will be allowed to run when vehicle is out of park. Probably a feature for folks who are stuck in vehicle while parking or waiting for other stuff.

I saw your point and dismissed it and gave alternative explanation. I don't think not supporting CP/AA has anything to do with Connect+. I think that the pricing is unfortunate, but I can't imagine that connect+ being a subscription was maybe at most a minor concern on implementing it.

I would love for nothing more to have car play in my truck, but I also see a trend of auto manufactures distancing themselves from Apple and Google and I can only imagine what the contracts look like for support on such a thing. This is also in line with what RJ and other manufactures have said which is a bit more than the point you are trying to make.

Yes, but does Volvo provide great monthly updates? My Ford sure the hell doesn't. Lots of promises and then never an update. My R1T is way improved from 20 months ago.

Do I wish it was free forever, sure. However the amount isn't bad and we can do Wifi to avoid charge for most features.
I guess I don’t need it because I bought a great car right off the bat. I’d say polestar updates come every 2-4 months and usually add very incremental stuff. We’ve had a couple of nice performance enhancing updates and one that gave us CarPlay which was pretty nice, but for the most part the car and the UI have stayed essentially the same from the jump. Haven’t really desired much to be fixed.

I am not sure how to answer it.. Other than to say my 2023 Chevy TrailBoss, that we have owned for 4 months, has unlimited data, app, and a few other things. It was part of the price we paid for it.
That’s a nice truck too.

For a CEO who claimed Carplay can't come to rivian because "we just believe that it is such an important piece of real estate, the digital ecosystem, that it was something we want to retain"... this sure does look like a lot of real estate they are not retaining...

Fairly certain this is Rivian's User Interface, but I'm not an apple music user so I'm just making an assumption here.

You quoted directly then proceeded to misinterpret the quote... Nowhere does he say "screen real estate." He said "digital real estate" and in context it's clear he meant the whole experience (and also clear that what he *really* means is access to and ownership of driver data)

Anyone know if Dolby Atmos applies to other apps like Spotify and Tidal or just Apple Music?

Most other platforms don't support it.

Agreed.. But thats kinda the point. It was technically built into the price for all those owners that have owned their R1 since 2022.. Thats why I made the adage comment about "For me, but not for thee"
It absolutely was NOT built into the price for any owner. They have stated multiple times over the years that there would be a charge.

I download any app from the android store and use it on my polestar for free without a paid connectivity subscription. Same in my wife’s Volvo.
Polestar's connectivity is supposed to be limited at 3 years, but I haven't heard of anyone losing it yet. I also don't see any place for a subscription in my account anywhere. My 3 years is up in October. I'll admit to not really following anything polestar related much since I bought my Rivian. Last I knew, Polestar was just extending out the length of the connectivity because they hadn't figured out exactly how they were going to do it.

THIS JUST PUT ME OVER THE EDGE!!!!

I WAS GOING TO BUY TWENTY TRI-MOTORS AT $115K EACH TODAY BUT NOW I'M NOT GOING TO BECAUSE RIVIAN IS GOING TO CHARGE ME (*CHECKS NOTES*) $12.50/MONTH (AFTER A 60 DAY FREE TRIAL PERIOD) TO USE THE DATA THAT AT&T IS CHARGING THEM FOR (WITH THE OPTION TO PAY NOTHING & JUST CONTINUE USING THE MEDIA FEATURES BUILT INTO THE VEHICLE FOR FREE BY TETHERING TO MY OWN PHONE THAT USES THE DATA I PAY FOR MYSELF)!!!!!

LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO JOIN MY CLASS ACTION SUIT OVER THESE CLEAR VIOLATIONS OF OUR FIRST AMENDMENT & 14TH AMENDMENT RIGHTS!

Rivian must have been reading about the folks who planned on not updating in an attempt to avoid the sunset of their free LTE, this was part of the e-mail I received on this story:
I wonder if it takes into account delayed/unable-to-update situations? My truck is currently somewhere that it won't even possibly be able to update for at least a week. I'd update if I could (the Apple Music would be great, and it's unclear if the update brings YouTube immediately, that would be great, too,) but I can't. I hope I'm not losing 1-2 weeks of the free time.

Also what they want to retain is the ability to charge people $15 a month for things they would get for free with CarPlay. Which is high, considering that Rivian isn't even 5G and will never be (short of buying a new car). I already have a phone which is easily twice as fast as the Rivian infotainment system, and a great cellular subscription, which will soon (in a few years) work with Starlink, to boot. Thank you, Rivian, but I choose Apple's proprietary system over your proprietary system.

Not sure if anybody’s posted it yet, but I already see it in my account. Looks like it’s actually starting in two days based on the 2 month trial period
