I will make another attempt, but it's quite possible it will just be something I have to live with for 33 more months. Very disappointed that this hasn't be addressed yet.

I have a reservation on an R2. We will be test driving it and ensuring no noises like this exist. I guess I got burned by a new design and a company that can't afford many customer satisfaction repairs.

I was 50/50 on whether I would buy out the lease, but at this point I would rather just eat the mileage fees and unload it with hope that these bugs are worked out.

I would like to test a Gen 2 out. The hard part is that the only people discussing this issue are people with problems. The others who don't deal with it obviously aren't participating in these sort of threads.

If someone asked me right now whether to buy a Gen1 Rivian used.... I would tell them to check the suspension and see if they can live with the noise or not.

Thry did my ting washers first....then I believe a half shaft....then called and told me they still heard something and decided it was subframe time. And when all that was done....I have a very nice and quiet truck...with exception of what I believe to be an internal noise on the air spring dampner.
What does the damper sound like? Is it a chatter?

Mine just does this dull thump/thunk low frequency noise on large impacts and then again on initial rebound. So kinda a thump-thump....but only on pretty big impacts that I can only hear at low speeds. Once at any significant speed it is low enough I don't really hear it.

The worst one for me is the chatter. It sounds like gas shocks where the gas has leaked out. I think that's the worst part. It sounds like shocks on a teenager's old beater car.

You still have the new dampers out there. Sadly, you might end up out-of-pocket for them. Just a guess.

I am at 45k so going to let it ride a bit and decide if I want to pursue closer to 60k.

Good luck chasing your noises....I know it is frustrating and if these trucks wernt so damn good....I would have moved on a whole back....but now that it is all good again....I just love driving it!

It's literally the only thing I don't like about it.

Mine has started making more noise. Seems to coincide with up/down movement in the suspension. Seems like the shock/strut assembly is the culprit. Still haven't had time to record but I have a service center appt reserved for early December.

Here’s what I’m seeing from ChatGPT. If Rivian refuses to fix my truck this next time again, I’ll give them one more time (3 times total) at which point I’ve opened up the lemon law here in Texas or some federal laws. We can also all join up and file a class action lawsuit. Hate to do that to Rivian but we didn’t pay $35k for our trucks.

Can you move your half shaft around by hand? I'm thinking there are two issues. Jounce lines and Half-shaft play. We need to get this half-shaft TSB situation going.

What's the fix?

Some say grease helps for a bit.... until it wears out. There has to be a spacer that can fix this.

And here's what it sounds like from in the inside with the doors shut.

This is the problem in a nutshell.

That’s exactly what mine does and sounds like. “As designed” according to the Denver SC. I pointed this out exactly to no avail. I think we need a different approach.

Here is mine. Its gotten significantly louder over the past two months. At times it almost sounds like a crunch when there is up/down suspension movement like over dips in the roadway. It doesn't do it over all bumps or speed bumps. It feels like something is loose under the car.

I could hear it. That's almost certainly the half-shaft. I bet they greased up the connection and overtime the grease thins out causing the shaft to begin to shift back and forth.

Is there a way we can access the point where the spline connects? I'd be curious to see what happens if I injected grease into it.

I am not sure of the procedure but I can tell you Tesla has the same issue on Model Y. They had a TSB out for it with the same solution. Grease the axle splines.

Unfortunately for Rivian owners many folks here have had this service and report the noise coming back fairly quickly.

I am going to add this concern to my December service appointment. Will see what the Rivian Wizards say ?
