Hey all! I've got a set of Nitto Recon Grappler a/t 275 /65 r20. According to their site, it says max PSI is 44. I don't want to run them at max so I've had them at 40. Now that its cold every morning I get a low pressure warning from the rivian... Should I run them closer to max PSI?

You pretty much answered your own question and why this overhyped tire is… overhyped?

No. But you’d be at max recommended threshold. No wiggle room. No padding.

Rivian recommends a specfic psi (48 psi for the 20" AT) for multiple reasons. Tire wear, efficiency, handling, towing/load capacity, etc. IMO you should run them at max (44) to be as close to RIvian's recommendation as possible. I personally would never buy a tire that cannot be inflated to the vehicle manufacturer's spec, but to each his own. Good luck.

The official weight rating is the capacity at the max psi. Lowering the pressure lowers the weight capacity.

If the new tire is rated for the same capacity at 44 as the OEM tire is at 50, then you should be fine inflating to less than 48. But how much less?

I've never seen the publicly available tire spec include a chart showing the capacity at each pressure which is what you really need and is how the manufacturer calculated the OEM recomendation. And without that you are really just guessing.

Without actual data about the specific tire, assuming that both tires lose capacity at the same rate seems as good as you can do. So If were you I would aim to match the same fraction of max. The OEM is at 48 out 50. To maintain that ratio you would need to be at 42.24 out of 44. (48/50*44)

So I would probably round up to 42.5 (or 43 if you gauge doesn't do fractions.

I would expect that the Nitto would have a tire that is similar in pressure ratings, maybe the one you got isn't quite the right one? Looks like the one you got has a lower load index..

what’s a good tire to get? I have the stock scorpions. I due for new tires in about 5k miles.
In my non-Rivian experience it comes down to your intended use or look. I had the Wranglers and the Grabbers on my Jeep Wrangler because I liked how they looked. My 4Runner came new with the NITTOs I had good luck with them as an in between where they look a little more aggressive but did nicely on the road. Nitto are also made here in Georgia so there's a little pride in them being made locally.

Good Luck!

One thing to keep in mind if you consider LT in the future - LT tires usually have an increased # of plys in the sidewall, which translates to a stiffer ride.
