I hate 2FA! Can someone tell me what secret info I have on my account that cant be easily found on the internet? Name, address, email, etc I have no Credit card info saved on my account!
I don't mind it for Rivian .com. I just hope it does not come to the app. For those of us that use the app as our key, going through it every time we want to drive is not a good thing.

It will stay logged in, I think the phone will have you re-login every 90 days or so. It also will work as a key without logging in (unless you have the app set to work only when open and you close it).

Can you share how to change settings so I do not have to have the app open?

You can remove your truck from your ownership from your Rivian account. Imagine someone deleting your truck by marking that you sold it. That deletes your driver profiles, all your phone keys and settings.

If you have an iPhone go to location services for your Rivian app and set it to always, that will run a process in the background so it will work if the app is opened or not. I have mine set to while using app so I can kill the app and it does not interact with the vehicle.

I assume there is an Android equivalent I am just not familiar with it.

Ok and then what can they do. Take my truck? I would just redo my profiles, and phone key. Still got the key fob. How would that benefit them.

Dunno, it would be a pain in the ass. I don't know if it would require Rivian to help set it back up or not because it would be back to factory state. Maybe they could pull private information like address or email off it? I'm not a cybercriminal so I don't know all the ways they can screw you over. What I do know is avoiding that as much as possible is good.

I don't want this. Make it optional.

And don't assume you're the only Rivian owner with a CS degree... ?
I both like and dislike biometric security. Primarily because if they are somehow able to replicate your biometrics, you can't change who you are. Also because sometimes accidents could disable specific personal biometrics as well. Then I'm reminded of all the times Hollywood has shown people getting their literal biometrics stolen from them.

People let’s chill on this, it is not a big deal.

I’ve had it configured since they enabled it and made it optional, probably over 2 years now.

With being able to set things as trusted for a period of time and the extended time (I think 90 days) before it forces you to re-authenticate on your phone, the change is barely noticeable. I’d be surprised if I averaged needing to key in the 2FA pin once a month.

if I got this bullshit once a month, I would trade it in for a Tesla.

pretty sure they said it would be every 60 days for the app and either 30 or 90 days for a Web login which doesn’t really matter since it’s not useful.

My prompts are for web logins as I rarely have 2FA trust a device.

Just to clarify:
  • On the Web: Your login session will last 1 hour by default, but if you’re on a trusted device, you can stretch that to 30 days.
  • In the App: Rivian app sessions last up to 6 months. If your session runs out, no worries – you can still lock, unlock, and drive your Rivian with your phone until the next time you log in.
