Not being able to change stations with the buttons on the steering wheel is a big miss. Hopefully they add that in a future software update.
I chatted with Rivian. They were unaware we could not change channels with the steering controls. I asked them to let anyone at Rivian know this is something I would like to have instead of forward and backward on the song playing. I believe if enough people complain, they will change it.

The forward and backward only seems to get you as much as has been buffered, which is not really that handy. I'd also prefer if it switched stations, preferably favorites. I think that's how it worked in my Jeep.

It's nice to have this option. Probably won't use alot but if I get bored of my playlists having it as an option is nice.

I really like SXM. I've kept it on my phone since trading in my BMW last year for the R1S.

I signed in with my account today on my Rivian, and it doesn't seem to recognize my membership. Probably going to have to talk to someone at SXM to figure out how to have it in the Rivian and on my phone.
I had the same question as I already have an active account With SiriusXM. I just got an email today from SiriusXM regarding the free trial in my Rivian and instructions on how to combine that with my existing account.

I was able to log in using my account username and password, but it wants me to subscribe. I'm not sure why I would do that when I can use my phone and play through Bluetooth!

Thank you
Ron
I was able to log in too. I didn't hit the subscribe button and just started listening. It showed my favorites, etc. I do have an active subscription on my other vehicle that lets me stream. I'm hoping this won't change after the trial period.

Here's my situation since the update a few days ago.
  1. Updated and used my existing XM digits (streaming only account) to log via the Rivian GUI. My streaming account was about $8.69/month & I've been an XM customer for about 20 years now.
  2. Rivian has said I'm on a "Trial" subscription in the app icon.
  3. Got an email from XM yesterday with some streaming Blah Blah.
  4. Got an email today saying Contrats on buying my new Rivian and I should activate my subscription permanently.
  5. I called XM support and spoke with them. In about 15 minutes on the phone I was able get a car streaming option with the included internet streaming for $8.99/month. So a $.30 increase over before.
  6. I still have my 30-day trial for free and then the $8.99 kicks in through Jan 2026 when it'll be about $20/month.
Not the smoothest implementation or set up but it is about the same to have the integrated system. As a side note, the XM app on the Rivian does sound much better than BT Streaming...not as good as Atmos on the Apple Music App, but better.

I spent 15 minutes with SXM on the phone…..kept repeating the same thing….need a new subscription with the new car….but try after a month “maybe” the original streaming log in might work…have a lifetime membership….will wait and see…

as an aside completely lost connection in Arlington, VT for a long stretch….about 5 miles….

See my post earlier in this thread on how to transfer your lifetime.

I did not have a lifetime subscription even though I've been a SXM subscriber for over 20 years (For the last 5 years I've just had a single streaming account for $5/ mo).

I received the email below this morning which seems like progress, although none of the links in the email will take you to any webpages that do what they indicate.

I just chatted with an agent and got signed up for when the Rivian trial expires. $8.25/mo which includes the truck and app/streaming access. Seems fair to me. Posting so others have another data point.

I have used Sirius on and off over the years in different vehicles. Typically the sound quality has been pretty poor.

I listened to a variety of music types today on a couple if drives with Sirius and I was actually pretty impressed. The bass levels and overall crispness of the highs are solid. I would actually deem it as excellent with Meridian. Maybe a slight bit less than Apple Music but not a very substantial amount.

I assume that since it is being delivered via streaming that the bit rate is significantly higher than when delivered by satellite...or Rivian is doing a very good job processing a low bit rate.

Tried the XM update last night for the first time. BLOWN AWAY. I'm not sure if it's all due to the app or increased bitrate, or if some stereo tweaks got snuck in to the update as well, but for the first time I feel like I have a car with an actual premium sound system.
The app itself was just really well thought out. As a longtime SXM user this makes me smile. I want carplay less and less now :)
