Everyone focused on MFA and preconditioning and I'm over here, a data nerd, super excited to get more detailed real-time information on efficiency and power consumption.

I’m curious to see how this MFA plays out, but why an MFA and not just an owner selected PIN? MFA sounds like a PITA for regular use and would require a phone. Wouldn’t a PIN accomplish the same thing without the presence of the owner‘s phone, nor the involvement of a third party? Maybe the Time Based Passcode can be set to 24/7, effectively making it a PIN - dunno.
MFA adds a second layer (something you have, like a phone or token), drastically increasing security. A 4-digit PIN is not as secure and can be guessed.

I'd be willing to wager that Rivian has collected usage data that indicates the # of vehicle unlocks & driving sessions initiated by paak, by key fob, key card and wristband. I have to believe that the data is telling them that phones are the overwhelming model that people use to access their Rivians and that phone/app-based MFA is the way to go.

(I'm in Software QA and just happen to love objective data, btw. Data nerds unite!)

I could be wrong but prepare for the “I was camping out of cell service and my phone died and I couldn’t get my truck to start even with my keycard or keyfob.” Based on my reading of how this works that scenario is easily possible. I mean I could be wrong but this just seems unnecessarily complicated, pin to drive is proven and works in and out of cell service and with all access methods
This was my immediate thought, and almost no one is talking about it. Makes me wonder if I'm missing something.

Theoretically, I supposed you could wait for your phone to charge off of the truck. But if your phone is broken or stolen now you can't drive your truck either...

I understand MFA’s. However, If somebody is into stealing cars, I don’t think they’re going to be wasting time trying to guess somebody’s PIN. It’s not like stealing a phone. By the time they guessed the PIN, if they could guess it, they would likely be arrested and placed on the Mount Rushmore of dumbest FN car thieves.

Also, why would it have to be a 4-digit pin? My PIN’s are usually at least 8-digits long.

I don’’t think it would take much data collection to ascertain that most people use their phone as a key. There is no revelation there. However, there are those that may find themselves, either by choice or circumstance, without a phone. If, in those situations, an MFA is required, they could be SOL.

Honestly, I don’t have the details of how Rivian intends to implement this procedure. But, it sure seems, to me, that a personal PIN would be a more universal solution, that would also be quicker and less of a hassle.

Who in the world asked for MFA??? What a waste of development time when they know there many other features people have been asking for OR better yet work on optimizing the UI and fixing bugs.
Yes 🙌

On-demand battery preconditioning: Precondition your battery on demand for fast charging. The system heats or cools the battery to the optimal temperature for fast charging.
Okay so we're all gonna switch over to complaining about the rear accessory mode not working for bike racks with brake lights now right???

That and the phone ringer volume scaring the crap out of me every time someone calls because it takes a volume of 18 to actually hear the conversation….

You may well be right. MFA integration to phones might be the result of prioritization and therefore be a first step of supporting multiple device types.

MFA with phones might be the most effective, or even in some sense a pre-requisite to implementing MFA on the Rivian screen. Integrating to the Rivian screen might be a part of other changes in the que (text messaging, etc.) and require other things be in place.

IMO, at this point, virtually all software needs to be seen in context of the VW joint venture. Even if not all software features and controls will be "shared" or implemented by all participants.
