I got the update last night. I have used Google maps for 15+ years now, so it's a welcome change.

One thing I haven't seen others mention is that the speed limits are more accurate now and update immediately when you drive into a different speed zone. Before, there'd often be no speed limit information or it would be incorrect .

Back on NAV. I’m hoping Rivian adopts Google maps ability to report accidents and police speed traps. Waze is better at this but Google Maps does have the functionality. IMO it’s not a huge priority since I can still just have Waze running on my phone for those alerts but it would be nice.

GM has this with their Google maps integration, Rivian should be able to do it. But in GM vehicles you can install Waze directly, so it is even better.

Is Rivian using Google now to find chargers? Rivian is missing many of the newer networks, such as Ionna, Red E, Circle K, etc. Google finds all of those. I did not get the update in my truck yet to check that, but the Rivian app is still missing those chargers.

Using it in the Rivian allows you to plan trips and see where charging would be needed. The separate Google Maps app doesn't do that (to my knowledge, but maybe something has changed the last time I tried it?)

For other vehicle brands that include google Maps it does do this, but you have to be able to log in to your Google account in the vehicle. I assume Rivian did not provide that capability.

I had a typo in that post, meant to say "Rivian App", and was comparing it to the Google Maps app on phone, which doesn't incorporate charging stops.

Just because we have Connect+ does not mean everyone gets the update on the same day. It seems to be randomized each release as to when you get it. I got this one very early, others in the past have taken a few days for me.

There's anecdotal evidence that it is done this way, at least in part, to ensure that there are no issues with the update. If early updaters have issues, they can freeze it and it affects a smaller population compared to every vehicle getting it in the first 3 hours. It's also a server bandwidth thing.

Rumor is that if you complain online, they will delay your update delivery.

It would be weird that you are the only one who got new audio, as many others are reporting that it's the same...

Haven't driven with it yet but played around with it for a while in the garage. Huge improvement IMHO and I'm hopeful they will improve it with every update. SOC upon arrival and telling you SOC you need at each charge stop is huge. I may never have to use ABRP again.

Gemini would be pretty cool, although I'm not sure their orchestrator is up to third party actions yet. I would love to have arbitrary AI chat in the car (I use Copilot voice over bluetooth often and it's great for brainstorming/troubleshooting/light research). But I'd hate to lose reliable basics like "navigate to..." (not that those are all that reliable on Alexa these days).

The Alexa integration is the one piece of the software stack that seems the least-loved and most brittle right now, to be honest - hopefully it's not too set in stone contractually, because all signs point to a pretty strong Google Automotive partnership which would make Gemini feel like an eventual no-brainer.

It’s no longer the Alexa voice. It’s the Google Maps voice. Gen 2 vehicle

The voice has progressively gotten worse. There is street called Wooleytown by our house and it calls it Wooleytussin. Like WTF? Route 9 is rootu 9. This crap was working on my Garmin in 2002.
