Why are there no RAN chargers in Salem, Oregon? It is the state capital and there are a ton of R1S/T here. You would think that along with that the north/south traffic on I5 would have created charging demand on this driving corridor.
Look at map. West cost is not exactly under-served by all of the networks. As for RAN expansion, it's a matter of time and $. Land isn't free. Cost of DCFC installation isn't free. Infrastructure from local utilities supplying the juice isn't free either. IF and when R2 production and sales hit cruising speed, I wager Rivian will be able to ramp up every other priority significantly. R2 production launch is top priority right now. Everything else takes a back seat.

For remote locations Tesla has a clear advantage of their own (cheap) solar panels, experience combining batteries into packs for fixed locations, experience siting and negotiating deals, and the economies of scale of doing all of that thousands of times. If anything they'd be the ones to make money on putting a charging location in a parking lot in a far off park with no or limited electrical infrastructure.
Is that still true, after Elmo fired the entire department? I assume he hired some of them back, but still...

They hired most (?) of them back almost immediately.

https://electrek.co/2024/05/28/rehi...r-manager-beautifully-explains-why-came-back/

There's a tracker at https://supercharge.info/changes that shows the future sites as well. I don't have historical data to look at but there's a lot of stations still in planning, permitting, or under construction showing there.

The DOE also has this https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/electricity-locations#/find/nearest?fuel=ELEC

The data there may not be great. For example it shows me zero forthcoming RAN or Tesla Super Charger locations

https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/elect...v_networks=RIVIAN_ADVENTURE&ev_levels=dc_fast

But if I'm doing something wrong there's data someone could consume and analyze to see how much of the level 2 and 3 market Tesla will have. And how their rollout compares to everyone else.

There's no coverage on exactly how many was hired back or current head count. There's only been coverage of one or two that were hired back. Assuming anything else is pure speculation. And sticking with what is known... Expansion was halted when the mass firing took place. There's been no report on resumption of any sort.

What do you mean by "expectation was halted"? If you mean that they've stopped building new superchargers? If so, that is very much not the case...

I know people who contract for the actual SC installations (heavy electric, concrete, etc). They said that dealing with Tesla has become better, not worse. So maybe those people were not useful? Or they contracted out the contracting to contracting experts?

I will admit I was pissed when he fired everyone and new superchargers came to a halt. But its back to nearly what it was before the firing. Tesla opens up 35-50 chargers a month now. That's more than any other charging company.

Sites that had already received permits at that point continued. The rest were canceled. That's what was reported. Since then, no coverage stating original expansion plan had resumed.

Halsey, OR

All permitted, built and live post firings/re-hirings, in places that had no or limited DCFC. That's just in Washington, Idaho and Oregon... And not all of the activity in those states.

I'd consider that expansion.

Interesting that they chose Irvine Spectrum. That mall has a Supercharger that is open to non-Teslas... though I haven't tried it. Comments online regarding parking structure validation is a bit confusing.
That's the supercharger I usually use, I live nearby. I don't see any evidence of a future RAN anywhere yet. I stopped by yesterday to check it out because I still have a month or two left of free RAN charging I've barely used. The dot on the map is over a paid parking structure, although i did notice that's where the Rivian employees park (but no charging).

We’ll see. So what’s the deal with that Supercharger? Do you have to pull a special ticket to not pay for parking?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The "coming soon" RAN seems to be scheduled for a pay structure, if the map is accurate. The Supercharger is on the second floor of the free garage next to Target. There are no gates in that garage. It's well lit, and I usually see at least one other Rivian when charging there. There's also Chargepoint Level 2 and 3 chargers on the ground floor.

I don’t need to look and be disappointed there’s still nothing in Canada… (sad face)
We still can't buy a t-shirt online and only recently is any gear available at the Richmond service centre. RAN? Not likely.

According to Autoline Daily there now are over 100,000 charging locations in USA. Double what there was 3 years ago. Under 5 percent of the new ones used government subsidies. With Costco & Walmart ramping up their own branded chargers I would rather Rivian focus their capital on QC & becoming profitable.

Driving Missoula to Seattle today. Stopped in St. Regis and talked to the guy working on the RAN. He thought it'd be live tonight or tomorrow depending on when he gets his work done. He also said they're focusing on filling in I-90 gaps.
