Honestly, not that expensive. Bring any high end vehicle to the dealer just for them to look at it, and its north of $250.

Yeah, they certainly aren't cheap - and the price tag and complexity of the vehicle reflects that, so not a surprise to me. Once my warranty runs out, fully plan on upgrading or getting an extended warranty.
All that to say, your pricing for a routine maintenance is very fair. For comparison, I have a BMW with 25k miles and brought it in for a check up to the BMW dealer near me and it was $275 just to get it through the door and they quoted me over $3K in BS repairs that were not needed (differential and transfer case fluid change, wheel alignment, AC coolant drain). If you saw a number like that here, then I would say you were being ripped off but from my experience so far, Rivian does not try to pull fast ones on you.

Yeah I just ate the $275 and they did a software update too that did basically nothing that they charged $350 for while it was in the shop. Declined everything else. They quoted $600 for a wheel alignment. What a joke. Never going to a BMW dealer again after that lol but another reason Rivian is great, free, frequent and meaningful software updates directly in your home!

Labor rates for most dealer shops are between $200-$250/hour currently. When you consider they had to rotate 4 large, heavy wheels and do an inspection, it seems reasonable to me.

They did the same to us when getting the Takata airbag recalls done. We had two 3-series BMW's at the time and both were returned to us after the airbags were swapped out with a "courtesy inspection" recommendations sheet left in the cabin. It was a full page long, amounting to almost $3k in "recommended" services which "should be addressed at your earliest opportunity". Never had even one of those services done in the two remaining years we owned both cars, and never had any issues related to anything on their "recommendation" list. 100% fishing expedition by BMW...

There have been a few threads on this. Tire rotations can be performed by any shop, though $47 is a fair price. However, I see no reason to pay them to look over a vehicle that is otherwise not experiencing any issues. If they were actually replacing things proactively as part of the bill, there may be some more value in the service, but I don't see the point.

Yeah I figured my case wasn't a one off. I have a local mechanic that I take my cars to but figured I'd let BMW take a look at it for once. Not only are they kind of useless as far as tech (they told me to fix an issue I had with Carplay by contacting BimmerTech and having them fix the code) but the laundry list of items that needed attention at a casual hundreds of dollars each just put a bad taste in my mouth and reminded me why I have been avoiding dealers altogether. My wife had a Honda a while back and they charged $150 just for diagnostics. I get its their time, but people don't exactly want to shred their money either just to be told what could be wrong.
For comparison, I've taken my Rivian in for service 3x now, each time the bill was $0 as everything was covered under warranty, even things that quite frankly as a stockholder I wish they probably didn't lol but a focus on service and transparency goes a long way. I do have a 30,000 mile service visit coming up soon, and if its $188 to tell me nothing is wrong, then I'd be okay with that.

It's dealer prices on a premium vehicle. I've been using the dealer on my Mustang as I didn't have a local guy when I moved here. I can't get out of there for less than 250 for anything, and that's on as old school a ride as you can get nowadays.

Yes, most of the services can be done elsewhere at a lower price. I would think. What could Rivian deem as a violation of the warranty terms, we agreed to?

that is a very reasonable price for someone to remove all your tires and swap them around and examine the vehicle. When you consider you don't do much else with regards to routine maintenance it is all good.

If you’re still under warranty then it can be a really good idea. I took my 2023 in after about 2 years for the inspection and they found that my dampers were leaking a bit - I didn’t notice the issue myself. Rivian put in the newer upgraded suspension retrofit under warranty. Cost was like $7,500 but all covered. I would have eventually noticed as the issue worsened but I might have been out of warranty by then. The truck drives significantly better now too! I’ll be doing another inspection in a year or two as I get closer to the warranty period expiring.
If you’re totally out of warranty, maybe it wouldn’t be a good use of money though.
