The only reason I said free is I have progressive and chip repair is free with my plan because I have glass coverage.
I also have free repairs with Nationwide ($500 deductible for replacement). But the world of insurance is always a bit shady to me. At what point do they decide to raise your rates?

Just had mine replaced by the SC, and well....my truck now has less wind noise. $1800 well spent. ;)

For me? Arbitrarily every year. For no reason.

Next question?

I recommend the one by @twraps
Looks good. Thank you

Thanks. Safelite coming this afternoon. I can't imagine a small chip on the bottom right on the passenger side will require any sort of recalibration, but it will be in the SC Tuesday anyway so timing works out.

Arrrrggg, on my way home from a trip to the Pacific Nortwest within 20 miles of home and my windshield got hit with a rock! The impact left a large crater! I've already scheduled for Rivian to replace the glass since my experiences with Safelite have been unsatisfactory to say the least.

When you get in, before you leave, test running the HVAC pulling in outside air with all windows closed. Turn it up to 3 or 4 speed and listen for a whistle. If you hear it, have them test the seals. I was unsatisfied with Safelite and had Rivian redo it... Well as annoying as the Safelite alignment was with wind noise, at least it was fully sealed. The Rivian job did not fully seal and now I have a water leak.

Rivian R1T R1S Windshield replacement - Safelite -- aftermarket vs OEM glass? 1000005638

I knew it was gapped because I heard a whistle when HVAC was turned on. But I didn't realized it was from the side and leaking until a recent car wash made it bubble.

Thanks. I will review things closely when I pick it up. I think once it cures I'll take it to a pressure wash car wash and blast the windshield with the high pressure water to see if anything leaks.

It sounds like both jobs got botched for you. Is Rivian going to make it right?

They were going to charge me $125 for troubleshooting, I'm sure they would've waived it if I pushed, but the fact I had to wait 3 months and drive 4 hours total on a work day to get it done, I'm really over going out of my way for something I can do myself. I ordered windshield urethane from Amazon, I have procedures for pulling A pillar trim, and I know how to use a caulk gun. I'm going to DIY this one.

So you are saying I should be happy the SC is close to me so when they screw it up I won't wast 4 to 8 hours driving to and from the SC? 😁

I think I have a pretty good relationship with the people at thr local SC, so hopefully I won't have to fight over charges for what gets messed up. I really don't want to be fixing what I pay a "professional" to fix!

Haha be very grateful! Is it Tualatin? They are good and have more openings than Seattle area. The main one in Seattle near Boeing Field is good, but all of them here have like 3 month waits for non-emergent items.

I'm in Boise, so less demand for service than some of the larger metro areas, but dont tell anyone. It is still a wait to get in for a non-essential service like this, but otherwise I've been able to get service quickly. I've gotten to know the service manager, which also helps. It should be interesting to see how this repair goes.

I’m not sure if Rivian’s windshields are the same level of complexity, pretty sure they would be, but the aftermarket replacement windshield for my ‘22 Volvo XC90 was a disaster. The computer didn’t want to communicate the appropriate information like the original did, and the projection of the speedometer was extremely out of focus. Also, the wipers didn’t work well.
In my limited experience, it pays to go with original equipment now, because of all the proprietary technology involved.

Brought the car to Safelite on Monday afternoon, the guy takes one look and says it's too big, they won't fix it. I asked why their questionnaire for glass insurance says under 6 inches is OK and he said he'll go ask inside if they think they can do it. While I'm waiting I call Nationwide and tell him the issue, and he tracks me down a glass shop that will be covered. I told the agent I'm in a little bit of a rush because I'd like to get it fixed before dropping it off at the SC the next day. He calls the glass shop, connects me to the owner and after talking with him he has me send him a pic, and says he can do it Tuesday morning (coming to me).
A little miscommunication so ended up being Tuesday afternoon, but he showed up and basically said what I was saying - worth trying to fix it, because if it doesn't work I would need to replace anyway. Turns out he did a great job, and I was on my way to the SC 20 minutes after he showed up.
Hope I don't need him again, but shout out to Jordan from Glassic Solutions in Garnerville, NY for the honesty, fast service, and great job.
