Well yeah. How would you expect them to get that data? Satellite imagery?
I mean, sure, but queuing at chargers when it happens is a problem. I haven't seen any issues, personally, but I know fights have broken out at locations before and/or people just behaving really badly and jumping the line. The times I've had to queue, folks just note the order people got there and it worked itself out. A couple times I've seen Nissan Leafs show up and someone was already on the only ChaDeMo unit at an EA site and I helped them negotiate with the queued drivers to get on the unit they needed.

I’m not discounting it may be an issue, but not one software like this can solve. Unless there is some kind of queueing system built and only lets the next person in the queue use an available charger. Then the map could integrate with that data. Otherwise, to comment it won’t be included is a little silly because it’s not feasible at this point.

No one is setup for it currently but the technology is out there. They could set chargers up in a corral and count vehicles coming and going. Many parking garages use this technology to identify floors with open spaces.

Could be an added benefit of queuing cars as they enter to eliminate the occasional who was there first conflict.

Ok, but not something for Rivian to implement except at RAN locations. Rivian is dependent on the operators of the charging locations to have a means to get that data

The best part of this for me is that Ionna should show up in the on-board nav after the update. I have a work-around, typing "Ionna Goodland KS" in the search field, for example, but this requires knowing where the stations are on your route.
I have tried to like EA...I really have. But they have been hit or miss. When they work, they're great. But too many times I have the same issues: a 4-pedestal station, one in use, one non-functional, and the last two may work, or throttle at 96 kW. The newer 350 kW units have more problems than the 150s, and I tend to just pick a 150 kW unit if I have the option. But since I got my NACS adapter, I hardly ever use EA anymore. This is not the case with Ionna due to their low price, amenities, and excellent reliability so far.

Although this will be a nice convenience, I'll still use the EA App for the membership discount. On my last trip to EA, the savings was almost $11...multiply that over a few stops on a road trip and it'll add up quick. Here's what the EA App said about my charge session there last week:

Echoing what others have already said, I really would love if Rivian could allow linking Rivian accounts to Tesla and EA accounts, such that we can still have the plug and charge experience while getting the discounted $ per kWh rates from the Tesla/EA memberships.

I’ll still avoid EA like the plague though lol
For reliability reasons, or something else?

If it is reliability I understand, they were awful 3+ years ago in CA when I needed to use them to get around. On the other hand the Rivian nav rates each site individually and a few have come up as A rated and ended up on my routes. I went ahead and gave it a go and they seemed fine. Like maybe all the chargers were working as opposed to almost none of them!

So if you had bad experiences in the past & that is the sole reason you are avoiding I urge you to give whatever the nav system rates highly a go.

Having used it on Rivian, Tesla and EVGO very happy to see this growing. Now if only BMW included the necessary hardware on my I4 it would be even better.

If people are waiting, wouldn’t it show up as “full”?
Surprisingly. not as often as you might think.
Often times when the site is effectively full there is at least one vehicle that is done and hasn’t left the stall, leading to the turnover between their vehicle departing and the next vehicle pulling in and starting, which can be several minutes. I’ve gone to many “1 available” sites only to find that there is a queue several cars long and the EA app was just reflecting data in that several minute window between charge sessions. A better rule of thumb for confidence that a site isn’t full is if you see 2 or more available, not just 1.

I'm just happy to see that EA stall count/use is finally arriving.
Google maps now has that, but Rivian has not enabled it yet. I found the EA status recently on my iPhone, then checked Google maps in my Hummer and the count/use shows up. The Hummer also shows Ionna and a bunch of other networks that Rivian is missing.

Plugshare and Apple maps are still missing that info.

Yeah, I can see that but I was questioning the implication that this isn’t useful at all compared to no info..

unless I missed a joke or something 🤷‍♂️

I'd really like to see pricing per kWh up front on all charging results.

Right now it's a bit of digging to see if we're going to be paying the equivalent of $1.99/gallon or $7.86/gallon to fill up.

Doesn't it show pricing (if the charging network is sending that info out via it's API) if you tap on "Details" for a particular charger?
