Is it worth upgrading from a 3x to a 4 at this point? I haven't looked into the 4, but I'm assuming it has more processing power and is more than just a smaller form factor. I'm assuming in the future there may be functionality that the 4 will get the that 3x will not due to hardware differences.

There's no more processing power. They both use a Snapdragon 845. The biggest differentiator (other than size) is better thermal management so the Comma 4 could potentially run bigger 10w driving models on device without it overheating.

Still investigating all the Comma 4 options. In order to get maximum functionality, is it necessary to acquire both the Xnor harness and the longitudinal upgrade? Or, does the Xnor longitudinal upgrade kit use the Comma harness that comes with the Comma 4. I’m guessing the Longitudinal upgrade kit is all that is needed. Jeez, at over $300, plus whatever it takes to get it delivered, we’re starting to talk real money.

Plus there's gonna be the tarrifs on top of that. 🤮

If you already have the harness from Comma, you don't need to get the harness kit from xnor. They're basically the same thing - the harness from xnor just has the AXM power connection removed (which we also recommend doing with the Comma harness).

Just make sure you order the correct version of the upgrade kit for the type of harness you have (Comma or Xnor).

Thanks. While I like the smaller form factor of the 4, I just can't justify the added expense to go from 3x to 4. I haven't run into any thermal issues myself. If I do, an upgrade may then be justified.

@Singletracker You also can add the longitudinal kit at a later time, doesn't have to be done all at once. With just the main harness, the comma can control lateral (steering) while the Rivian handles the longitudinal (speed) thru adaptive cruise - or with Sunnypilot you can utilize mads mode and control longitudinal thru 1 pedal driving all the way down to a stop. The other thing you lose is automatic lane changes with use of the blind spot monitors. You can still do them, but you need to check your blind spot!

Thanks, Gerry. So, the upgrade kit will be a $400-$500 item 😧

I saw someone posted about this on Discord, with currency conversion and tariffs it over $500!

Just checked by Xnor order from back in July. Both harnesses + fuse tap = €457,98, or about $600 delivered. I bought my 3X during the July 4th sale, so roughly $1,400 all in.

After they announced the new features for the Gen 2 vehicles and had the deals for Gen 1 owners I briefly looked into upgrading to a Gen 2, but with the Comma I couldn't justify the $30-$40k it would cost to make the move. Now i'm looking more at keeping my Gen 1 longer and getting an extended warranty.

I know what you mean! With the Comma and a 4-year, 75,000 mile Xcare warranty, I am keeping my Gen 1 until I can get a good deal on a used Gen 3 R1T.

I also desire help &/or assistance with C4 install, removal of the two red wires in the Comma harness, and general operation instructions.

I am in the Colorado Springs, CO area, but willing to drive most anywhere for help.

You *could* try using it without removing the two wires on the harness and see if you have any issues. Some people never experience issues even with the AXM power connection. The problem is, if you DO experience issues down the line you'll have to pull the harness out so that's why we recommend doing that modification before you install it. Just saves potential headache later on.

If you can't find anyone to do it locally, send it to me and I'll make the modification and send you a fusetap.
