Also an early R1T owner with with and early R2 reservation. Hard to justify an R2 when the R1 is still so good.
Especially with the R1T because it hides the crappy suspension that the Gen 1 R1S doesn't. You have reliable Bosch motors and just some crappy cameras and driver+ which isn't the end of the world. To me the R2 is a downgrade from the Gen 1 R1. I have 2x R2 reservations and unlikely to use them and would only consider the Gen 3 lidar for the wife.

All R1s are V2H capable. No reason to think that won't carry over to R2.

Been hearing it for 3 years, still not a way to use it to back up the home. My understanding is that the R1 line needs more hardware installed on the home to make it happen. That it would be built into R2 to make it easier. But still no mention of it. Something about DC to DC conversion or DC to AC conversion? Its outside my wheel house.

R1 Gen 1 has DC output, requiring a DC/AC converter to power a home. R2 Gen 2 with NACS has AC output capability. Both would require extra hardware at the home, but Gen 2 would be cheaper hardware.

Only because of the way it needs to be hooked up makes literally any DC battery capable.
That was exactly my point. Pretty much any EV can do V2H, so it's really an unfounded fear that R2 wouldn't be capable.

I'll be curious how many early reservations convert to real orders. Announcing Gen 3+lidar was such a dumb move by Rivian.

Lidar won't make a difference, at least not for a few years, the increased compute power of Gen 3 will be held back by the need to support Gen 2, at least for the first few years.

Launch Edition is the way to go.

I'm unlikely to convert my reservation. My Gen 1 R1S is in perfect condition, no sense eating $15k depreciation from what is paid (almost $40k from MSRP) to downsize......., plus, I would want the white interior which isn't coming until next year.

I think Rivian missed the boat on this one. They should have led with the economical choice first OR offered the base model out of the gate along with the premium package. "Promising" a $45k model 18 months down the road after product launch is going to turn away a lot of people that keep $50k ceiling on a new vehicle purchase. Meanwhile, other manufactures are working to come in under that.

When we went through the financial logistics of upgrading my husbands 10yo Nissan Rogue last Fall, the line in the sand for him was it could not be more than $50k. Sure, we looked at every EV brand out there (including the Rivian R1S), test drove everything he could, a lot of "Wow!" :p factors (Lucid Gravity is GORGEOUS!), but almost everything was well north of $90k and just not financially reasonable. The lease on the Tesla Model Y (just at that $50k cap) fit. I do not believe we were the only ones considering finances over "Wow!" factors, and I think that still holds true now.

The major thing the R2 has going for it right now is he factor of oil prices. We ran errands last night saw that even the bargain gas stations were minimally $3.59gal for regular, Diesel was over $5 in many places. And to compare, the Tesla Supercharging center over at the MA/RI border was $0.38kw (down $0.10 since we last used it). It would run about $12 to "fill up" the truck for weekly use.
So, good luck on the launch! I DID buy some more stock before the March 12 release. I do believe in the company. The R2 and R3 (and proposed R2T) are going to be wonderful entries into the segment.

What on Earth are you talking about? There have been no announcements about paint color pricing, but they also explicitly say that LE has one additional free color. Assuming the same as they did with the R1, the free color will be silver and the additional free color on the LE will be Launch Green. Since that's the whole reason for having a "launch" color.
I think the reason for having a “launch color” is to have it be a limited run series only, it will forever mean you got it first. Most of the press packages show the launch green color as a paid option.

I think I am a little surprised to see this poll so high in interest for the LE model. Especially sense I have seen so many people say they wanted to wait for the lidar. I also expected more people to be willing to wait for the more affordable models. I myself will be waiting for the more affordable models.

Very encouraging to hear the refusals! I didn't get my reservation in until March 2025. I may have a chance for an LE before 2027. I'm retired, but if I were working, I, too, would leave work now if called.

If we apply the poll numbers (65%+) to the reservations numbers (200k+), Rivian has already sold out their production capacity for 2026 (~65k)…. by more than double.

I know this forum, and therefore this poll, skews towards enthusiasts, but I think a lot of people worrying about Lidar aren’t even going to have the chance to get their R2 until that version comes out anyways.

I think it shows a sort of institutional integrity at Rivian that you don't see at...ummm...a certain other US EV company that would've happily played the bait-and-switch game with its customers.
