I’m Still leaning toward a simple tailgate pad with front wheel hanging off back. Seems the easiest solution of all if you don’t mind giving up some of the bed cargo space (for me, that is what frunk and fear tunnel are for).
I look forward to an aftermarket company adding a tailgate extender to use when gate is down. Love the R1T - but bed is painfully small.

Tailgate pads are no bueno. on a rivian with the concave part of the tailgate, forks make dents.
Also carrying a bike that way isn’t kind to the downtube, or headtube/downtube junction.

So far the optimum setup for carrying a bike with wheels on is oneup racks over the bed, since it’s the only one that has enough longitudinal adjustment.

If Rivian ever sells me the tent I wanted to get with the truck, I'll have another pair of crossbars. I'll see if it's feasible to have bikes in both places. Maybe I'll throw the 4 place hitch rack on and see just how many bikes I can carry at the same time.

Love to see that there are 1up fans putting them on their R1Ts! Anyone try out the Recon now that 1up owns them?

Don't mean to Hijack your thread but so many 1up fans here I thought I'd spread the word on the QUIKR stuff Mach 2 As a former owner of two 1up setups, I can tell you that the Mach 2 is a real step up. It's the Rivian of hitch racks(Two year wait for mine) but miles better than the competition.

Truck looks great and I'm interested to see the departure angle with the hitch rack in.

Too bad they don’t make a crossbar mount version.

Would something like the Yakima HighSpeed Fork Mount bike carrier work on the crossbars over the bed for a 29er MTB? I’ve never used one, but looks promising looking at the videos of installing it on Amazon.

Any fork mount will be fine as the distance from front crossbar to rear of cab is a non issue.

Looks good. Wish they had crossbar mounted racks.

Thanks for the pics! This is helpful as I'm looking at 1up racks.

Now if someone can also share how a 1up single and double hitch racks would look with the truck......

Not the best shots but I do have the single/double 1up rack. I ended up using my hitch extender (bought for the Rubicon I traded on the R1T purchase). You could get by without the hitch extender but the pedals end up only an inch from the liftgate and that's with only being able to insert the hitch bar a few inches - I think they say 4" "required". I would run it without the extender if it was just my bike. Since I had my neighbor with me on his maiden ride with the Epic Evo I though better of it.

I am looking at options for a fork mount rack to put on the crossbars as I see myself using that if its just me and/or a buddy and then add the hitch mount rack when I have 3 or 4 in the truck. I think the weak link in using the hitch is taking off/putting on the plastic hitch cover - that is a lot of flimsy plastic just waiting to get crushed/stepped on & broken when off the vehicle. I had a Grand Cherokee SRT that had the hitch cover that was made a lot sturdier than Rivians (also smaller I guess)

Now we need to start a thread on bikes...I have a problem with too many bikes finding a home in my garage.

I haven't taken a photo since I cleaned/finished this up, but I had made special plates to be able to mount the rack lower on my wife's Volt since the hitch we got for it comes out of the vehicle kind of high. I could make new side plates that extend the rotating 1up rack out a little bit farther from the vehicle for the Rivian. I probably will for myself if I find the same issue that you're experiencing.

Any noticeable negative impact on range with the mount and bikes on the truck? When I added my mount and two heavy ebikes to the back of my Model S, the Wh/mile was significantly higher, but it’s obviously not designed for towing.

This looks like a pretty nice tailgate solution.

I'm sure range will take a hit but at this point I'm still driving it like I stole it. My mpge is horrible with or without bikes on the truck.?‍♂
