Hi Y’all - just returned from a 10 day trip parked near O’Hare (so still seeing some more mild winter temps) but returned to the vehicle with a shocking surprise on my SOC, with far more drain than we’ve ever experienced on previous similar trips. We charged to 93% parked in covered garage, I enabled transport mode like many suggest, suspension on lowest setting. Got back today (10 days) and I was at 14%! This seems insane to me. What did I do wrong??? It’s also awesome that it’s like $80 down the drain since we have a 3+ hour drive each way so that 93% SOC was reached with DCFC and like $80 bucks down the drain!
Similar trip last year during the same week we still had 77% from 90% SOC when left parked after a week. Something’s up…

Whoa. That's bad.

Did have Gear Guard On? Probably not. Guessing that's disabled in Shipping Mode.

Did you accidentally leave a seat belt buckled? That's been known to see the vehicle awake.

I'd file a service ticket and ask Rivian to look at the logs. That's crazy.

No seatbelts. I believe gear guard is disabled based on what I read. It seemed to be in deep sleep when I checked the app once and it said vehicle was offline. I figured I would submit a ticket too…

Would submit a ticket. I just left my T for 10 days at the airport and lost about 8-9%. I didn’t do anything but lock it and walk away

Will do. I wish I would’ve remembered to do a data capture thing to create a log while still at the airport but it was a long international flight and I was focused on recharging and getting home plus I don’t remember how to do this.

It sounds like you R1 never slept the whole 10 days?
If it was behaving nominally, with GG on you you should see maybe 2.5% loss/day worse case, not 8%/day loss like you experienced.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Other things to consider:
- Cabin preconditioning schedule?
- Was a door left only partially closed (this will generally keep it awake)?
- Anything plugged into an outlet, and did you leave the outlets enabled (though there's a time limit now IIRC)?

A pro tip for your next ORD trip. The remote garage has free chargers on the first level of parking (above the car rental). No app required, so no fines for leaving it on the charger for weeks.

Schedule only works at home AFAIK. Plus it was in transport mode. No doors were open

Have the service folks inspect your 12V battery. Dying 12V batteries are known to cause a ton of phantom drain. 8% a day is the most I've heard of, even with gear guard on nonstop.

Extreme loss fore sure. Sorry that happened. Ask Rivian during your service visit to charge your battery. They likely will when you explain your circumstance.

For reference, my 2025 R1S parked in my garage for 10 days lost 7%. Starting SOC was 70%. Garage temperature 45 to 50°. Not sure this makes any difference but for what it is worth, I always turn off the HVAC, radio and the display when I know the vehicle is going to sit for more than a day. This was also before SW 2025.06 upgrade. Hopefully the SW upgrade doesn’t negatively impact my HV battery drain.

I have seen that but we typically do park n fly at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare - very nice garage parking in a nice neighborhood and well-priced. I imagine on airport is a small fortune.
Regardless, this should not have happened.

For my gen 1 R1T. I do remeber loosing charge after my 5 day trip. But not that insane.
Now I have Gen 2 R1T. I am loosing 2-3 mile a day. That's normal. But crazy thing is that I am plugged in, I charge to 62% for daily use. Once charged obviously it will stop charging. But even if it is still plugged I find I lost 9-10 miles between Thursday to Sunday. But why? when it is still plugged it should keep charging after certain loss of battery. No, I will loose 2% even I m plugged.
