They use a small sensor that is basically a microphone and it detects the loud siren of the heat/fire/smoke/CO alarm and then triggers the central alarm system.

I have one in my house. It works well... Perhaps too well... The "low battery chirp" on one of my detectors triggered my whole house alarm and the FD showed up.

Understood. I have the Cove system and it doesn't have that but warns about low batteries before chirping becomes an issue.

Cove does have a heat sensor as part of their so-called "smart" smoke detector which is both smoke and significant heat increases, so perhaps I'll give that a try. However, I will have to clean the sensor regularly as they say that dust hurts the sensors and there is more than plenty of dust in my garage.

I wish they made them with a wireless interconnect. Our garage is so far away from our bedroom an alarm going off in the garage at night when people are sleeping probably won't benefit us practically.
This is easy. Get a smaller house.

Or sleep in the truck
Sorry to highjack the thread, but in all seriousness I would love to know the exact measurement of the back seat area on the inside the long way, so I can see if stopping to take a nap on the back seat is a practical option. My own guesstimate says it's a little over 5, maybe 5' 3".
Unfortunately I didn't think to try this at First Mile.

I know, #FirstWorldProblems. Most people are probably:

Seriously, our house is hardly palatial at around 1,600 sq. ft., but it is all on one level and the architect decided to put the primary bedroom as far from the garage as possible. It's probably 60'-70' between the alarm in the garage and where the bed is.

Plus, I think a heat detector in the kitchen (adjacent to the laundry room) would cover the next most likely place a fire would start. Given my cooking skills, that is. :CWL:

 How to rationalize an R1S as an economical purchase: sell the house and sleep in the truck.
My plans aren't far off from this! I'm currently buying a camper trailer and when I get my R1T Max Pack (in another 2 years probably), planning to spend a while traveling and living in it. (I'm extremely interested to see real data on towing range under different circumstances. The Out of Spec videos were a great starting point. But my trailer is much lighter at ~3400lbs. So far I'm figuring something like 170 real world miles between charges but we'll see.)

but then do you attach the heat sensor to the glass roof of the R1S?

The heat sensor was to protect us from a house fire, and the R1S would be the “house” so definitely maybe perhaps.

I towed my 7x14ft enclosed motorcycle trailer last weekend and got an efficiency anywhere between .8 and 1.4 mi/kWh with an overall average of 1.1 mi/kWh. The first day of my trip was raining and likely had a big impact on my efficiency. On the return trip I was checking the ability of the R1T to tow at highway speeds+(Lead foot). I also did not use Cruise control as mine is currently not functioning.

Thanks for this! Your trailer looks great with your El Cap Granite Rivian. Do you know the weight of your trailer when you were towing? Considering it's a dual axle I imagine it's capable of carrying a lot, but don't know how much you were carrying. Empty I imagine it's around 2500lbs. My trailer is 19' long and just about the same width as the Rivian except for the wheels which stick out similar to yours, but single axle. And it's about 9' tall, 9.5' at the AC, a bit taller than yours I think. How aerodynamic it is at the front I'll have to wait and see. Attached is a crude photo I mashed together of my trailer model (inTech Sol Horizon) with an R1T.

If the Max Pack is 185kwh and I use 80% of that and get 1.1 miles/kWh I'll be right around 150mi between charges, not great. But I figure if I drive slower, around 60mph (towing speed limit is 55 here in CA anyway) it'll be a good amount better, maybe 170.

Edit: Also I'm planning on getting AS tires. Still undecided between 21 and 22 but now leaning toward 22", so I might gain 5-10% there vs AT.

It’s a V-Nose but not very aerodynamic. Towing it with other tow vehicles it always reduced their efficiency by @40%. It’s right @3,500lbs with my smaller Dual Sport Motorcycle in it.

Fantastic. That's right around my weight. I'll be closer to 4000 when loaded but close! This is great info to add to my mental list of data.
When you said you got it up to highway speeds, does that mean 70, 75?
