Thanks, yeah I did respond to the email but it would be nice if they would let you know that you are on the list and when to expect shipment.
Yeah, good luck with that ?

Is this really a concern? I've NEVER charged my R1S on a Rivian brand charger, cable or adaptor. Rivian was built to accept 120v AC, 240v AC and DC voltage from nearly any outlet and charging station that you can plug into it - then it's up to the car and charge port's electronics to determine what the incoming voltage and current are and how that will impact a charging session charging. Rivian wouldn't know the difference if I plug directly into my garage receptacle or if the other end of the cable gors down the street and is hooked up to a gorilla on a bicycle.

That said, It's a litigious world. Can your trailer hitch accept Non-Rivian trailers? Does aftermarket window tint void your car Insurance? Does Rivian know about the time I used an offroad drive mode while driving ON THE ROAD, just to make my R1S look taller next to some other guy's Bronco?
?

Maybe some emails will go out this week asking people to confirm their addresses.

Anything is possible since Rivian has no real deadlines to meet but would, love to see more R1 owners get one.

But Ford has promised about 5000 in June, two of which are mine. Should Ford disappoint again I would suspect something has gone horribly wrong with the production of adapters and Rivian will be staying quiet.

My guess would be that Tesla is intentionally limiting the number of adapters so that people can get used to non-teslas using the supercharger network.

What I received today after my inquiry:
Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for reaching out about the Tesla adapters. Here is what we know as of today: We’re working hard to get adapters to you as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience! Reminder:* For those taking delivery April 5, 2024 and beyond, we’ll contact you separately about getting your adapter. Your GUIDE has no ability to expedite an adapter and no insight into when exactly yours will ship, and adapters are not available at the service centers.

Ordered an A2Z EV adaptor today... My Invoice indicates: "Orders take around 10 to 15 business days to ship as we have an important volume of orders"

I'm not holding my breath, but I'll update when it arrives.
I I placed my A2Z order on May 1st. It said it could take up to 15 to 20 days. It has been shipped and should be arriving tomorrow 5/29/24.
Just in time for a planned camping trip.

You don't appreciate just how much energy is being transferred during DC charging. If something goes wrong, it's going to go wrong fast.

I see alot of that regarding these adapters. Additionally many think because they used a 3rd party unapproved adapter...and it worked....they are in the clear. Damage can be progressive. My Rivian wall charger started arcing at the connector to vehicle. It started with an occasional red ring error indication every once in a while. Progressed to it almost wouldn't work at all before I figured out stuff was melting inside the connector. If that happens with the unapproved adapters.....I suspect Rivian won't be paying for it.

But like you said....the amount of energy transfer is massive....and things can go bad....and fast....at a DC fast charger.

And if the truck shows signs of overheating at the connectors, arcing, etc... and the logs show charging at a Tesla Supercharger....and one has not been sent an adapter.....at least understand that risk.

I own and operate a company that makes highly specialized ruggedized electrical connectors. Without fully digging into the construction I believe with a single molding cell production should be 1000+/day. The contacts can be made "super fast" if stamped and just "fast" if machined.

The hold-up has to be something other than production capacity.

Don't ask me to make these connectors. Our products are super expensive.

Most definitely something is holding up roll out. My speculation money is on Tesla exploring legal options and ramifications of reversing their decision and going back to Tesla only at Tesla chargers.

I hope you are going to a fun area.

@R1Tom That would be a bummer. No other manufacturers have gotten access for their vehicles after Ford and Rivian on 18 March 2024. Surveys have shown the Tesla supercharger network was a big factor in why some people bought Teslas. I suppose another reason for a delay is to await software for increased dynamic prices at superchargers to non-Tesla vehicles with the goal of shortening their time at Tesla superchargers.

The NACS specification is a standard now, but access to the supercharger network is a whole other thing.

Don’t ask ChatGPT to write an Elon Musk announcement that supercharger access is being canceled. Too scary.
