Really impressed with this! I’m definitely curious how you got touch screen working.

I, like others in this thread, expected this solution to simply hijack the video pipeline and instead show your own content on the screen. But the screen still responding to touches when CarPlay is showing indicates something more going on here.

It does look like there is a little lag when interacting with the display in this mode. Is that something still being optimized?

I have a question on the audio... If you start music playing through CarPlay but then switch back to the Rivian video does the audio stop?

This looks like the Hanna Montana to me; I can toggle back and forth between the two and use whichever I prefer, including AA/CP. As long as you aren't tampering with the connection and associated costs (that is, disintermediating the requirement to pay for connectivity) it should be a net add for everyone.

Hopefully RJ agrees, I am in 100%.

- What happens to steering wheel audio controls while in CarPlay? Can you still use them to control the volume and skip forward and back?

Why? AA/CP both use the cellular service of the device broadcasting.

My bet is that anything that disintermediates a revenue generating service like Connect+ is not going to get a green light to be integrated so tightly, but I am not the developer.

I'm curious how audio is handled. Do you get the same benefits as the native audio apps in the interface. For example, can you play Dolby Atmos audio in Apple Music? It doesn't stream the audio over bluetooth I hope.

No, nothing to do with the current tethering functionality and so yes, works while driving. With that said, there are various laws and ethical considerations as to which apps are available while driving, namely disabling the video playing capabilities unless in Park.

Just the main one at launch but all screens will be available in the future via plug and play "expansion modules."

I was actually on the fence for a while as to which screen to launch with -- the main screen or the instrument cluster. Both worked, but watching videos, online gaming, etc. on the main screen is a better experience, for obvious reasons.

There is a future world where EV Play connects directly to the audio system, but for now, it is Bluetooth.

With that said, EV Play will have HDMI, a 3.5mm mic/headphone jack, USB audio, and the potential to support high quality Bluetooth codecs. So the functionality to support great audio is there. We would just need Rivian to push an update with higher-res codecs, or, open their USB ports to allow audio aux inputs...then it's off to the races.

Or, someone in the community builds a device that interfaces with the amp. Any takers? ?
