Basic charging app question

Relatively new owner R1S….if this has been addressed before please guide in the right direction.

what’s the one app that should cover charging needs on a road trip….Rivian, Plugshare, Chargepoint, Tesla, ElectrifyAmerica?

does one need the Tesla app (account?) for the magic dock? Every app I download wants me to set up an account….might be a naive question….but just aggravating….

Unfortunately charging is still kind of a wild west out there, assuming you need to charge outside of your home. Imo it should get a lot better once Tesla opens up their Supercharger network and Rivian ships the adapter. In the meantime, some light reading for you. ?

I have a ChargePoint flex charger at home and that app as a result. In my area there are Electrify America and EVGO (very few) along with Tesla I'll get access to this year. I have both EA and Tesla in addition to Chargepoint.

Up in NY you have at least Tesla with some Magic Docks, so that's one, get on PlugShare web and look around you along with routes to regular trips (Beach, Mountains, Lobster, etc...) and that should drive your initial app selection.

All of them. Definitely EA, EVGo, and ChargePoint. ChargePoint and EVGo you can link them in the Rivian app. If you find yourself at a charging station that you don't have an app for, you can probably just pay at the station.

Plug-Share is a must-have app to help navigate and read reviews for stations you might want to use. When we went to Disneyland back in September (from NorCal), I used PLug-Share to study all the stations we "might" want/need to stop at. I researched a month or 2 out and felt very confident with the results.

Rivian bought ABRP (A Better Route Planner) and has integrated a lot of it into the navigation system. That is a great one to use because you put in your starting point and your ending point. You put in the SoC (state of charge) when you leave and what you want to charge to at stations and it will map out where to stop. This is where Plug-Share comes in handy as I use the ABRP stata and the plug-share information to get reviews on the stations.

Thank you Rivian family for all the pointers…..reading all of the above and some own research no easy/single answer…have downloaded plugshare/EA/chargepoint…..will start there and post some feedback…thanks again.

first longish road trip today (200miles) ACC worked perfectly almost all the way up Taconic State Parkway….which NY people will know is as windy and narrow as it can get on a misty day…

tried the 110v charger…that did not work….works for 10 minutes….and then says vehicle error….no idea….will call SC tomorrow
