I had a car a few years ago that had a turn signal sound that increased in volume until you turned it off. It was a great idea that I've never seen since.
That DOES seem like a good idea!

The IS no “blind spot” if your mirrors are positioned correctly. This is day 1, lesson 1 in any high performance driving school. I’m finding the whole blind-spot camera image thing, overrated
Unfortunately in the US high performance driving school isn't mandated to obtain a driver's license....and at least when I went thru....regular drivers ed certainly didn't cover it correctly.

So....for all those drivers that didn't go thru a high performance driving school....if this keeps one of then from side swiping me....it was 100% worth it.

Like I said in previous posts, if one positions the side mirrors away from the car’s sides, such that a car leaving your rear view (overtaking, on either side) it will appear squarely in the side mirrors. Simple. Are you aware that the law does not acknowledge “Blind Spot”? C’mon people..this just isn’t hard, unless one makes it so. The only reason a driving school was mentioned, it that it pointed out the logic of seeing, at a glance, a car on your quarter panels, no longer “behind” you. Jeesh

One of the things I really appreciate about these features as Rivian adds them is that they give you the ability to turn it off if you don't want to use it. To each their own...

This is true if you adjust the mirrors correctly. I do that on every car, but some cars don't have mirrors that go wide enough for me (my last model Y didn't and Tesla service guy had to do some mods to make it work).

However, when I say this, many people say they want to see the side of the car. The typical reply is you can't run into your own car. But some people want to see the curb area.

When the camera video is working, it eliminates the need to even look at the mirror when you are looking straight ahead. I am not used to it and still use the mirror first. Maybe there's a blind spot on the camera view. I don't drive the R1S often, it is my wife's car.

Today I drove it in the rain, the rain drops block the camera too much and the images are super blurred. I think it's due to the position of gen 1 cameras since it was not originally designed to do this. I wonder if there is a aftermarket hack that can solve this. Maybe a small lip plastic ring by the camera lens so water gets around the lens instead of on it.

Just wanted to point out the turn signal cams can be turned off as to not annoy you.
They don’t annoy, I just find them an unnecessary techno-gimmick with little utility. Please understand..this is an opinion only.

All good by me. I too use my mirrors the way you are describing, but I do also find it difficult to hear my signal indicator and like the camera screen to remind me thry are still on. I do actually scan them, along with my actual mirrors, both side and rear view, prior to executing a turn.

Speaking of law, in Wisconsin we don't even have to have side view mirrors....at all. Just the rear view on the windshield....which I think is wild....

When mirrors are adjusted correctly, you can see behind you and also use the vehicle as a reference point. The stupid advice about pointing them out instead of turning your head is so terrible. And what do you do when you tow or have tall cargo?

I find the biggest benefit is not on multi-lane roads (still have lots of space and time to shoulder check), but specifically in downtown-like areas with single lane roads with a high volume of distractions and poor visibility. Why? Cyclists and other smaller objects. Remember to check your blindspots (or cameras) for cars, trucks, motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians, scooters, e-bikers, etc. Save a life!
Agree. It's already been helpful to me spotting cyclists and other fast moving pedestrians. However, the poor quality Gen 1 cameras and my aging eyes definitely diminish some of the value.

I would prefer it on the bigger screen. The driver one is a bit small for this purpose.

I on the whole find it very useful, but I do wish I didn't have to see it when I'm driving through my neighborhood at 25 mph and turn the turn signal on at a four way stop. Given that is a typical instance in which we are not checking our blind spots and as this fix was software-driven, I wondered why they couldn't have set it up so that the blind spot images only appear, say, when you turn on your turn signal at greater than X mph.
