That article is a bit misleading. First, the luxury tax has been pseudo-official since it was announced back in August of 2021 (it's gone through multiple consultations). Secondly, they don't mention the full details of the luxury tax. From the official announcement on the government website here:



So, using my config as an example at ~$101,000 (UGH).

10% of $101,000 (full value) = $10,100
vs
20% of $1,000 (value above threshold) = $200

It's not as bad as the news makes it seems, but still crap. BC gets extra dinged with our tiered PST rates (10%), along with GST (5%), and now this.

Not many people understand how marginal taxes work. I know accountants who don’t get it. ?

There won’t be a lux tax on the rivian afaik because it qualifies as a 3/4 ton, thus it won’t be defined as a passenger vehicle.

Vehicles subject to the luxury tax
The luxury tax will apply to vehicles that meet the definition of subject vehicle under the Act and are priced or valued above the $100,000 price threshold, unless an exception applies.

Under subsection 2(1), subject vehicle means a motor vehicle that meets all of the following conditions:

• it is designed or adapted primarily to carry individuals on highways and streets
• it has a seating capacity of not more than 10 individuals
• it has a gross vehicle weight rating that is 3,856 kg or less
• it has a date of manufacture after 2018
• it is designed to travel with four or more wheels in contact with the ground

Does anyone know the GVWR for the R1S. As for the R1T, all config should be at least 3872 kg as per above of the tag may change depending on your config. I have R1T w/ underbody shield, full size spare on 21 Road wheels

Hey all. I have been seeing reports that there are some Rivian's in Canada. Are these road trip vehicles or Canadian purchasers? Also, if anybody would happen to have a Rivian R1T, please see if TuxMat (Toronto area) is still in need of a specimen. I am almost certain they are. I think they would sell really well if we can just get them measured and spec'd out. These are the best mats you can get for any vehicle.

one spotted on bc plates ages ago, it’s 100% their office truck since they don’t have approval to sell in canada.

you can’t even import a US model as it’s not on the list of admissible vehicles.

if you want tuxmat to measure one ASAP, it’s only 1200 miles to their office from you. That’s two days drive, three if you’re leisurly ?
