Debating canceling my order out of principal. The USD$ is pretty strong so my $1k deposit is about $1300 CDN. But, I can’t bring myself to do it.

it was very easy for me to cancel when I realized there is no plan to deliver vehicles in Canada(particularly markets outside of the “Canadian tour!“ cities of Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal) in meaningful numbers in any sort of reasonable timeframe.

it would be an entirely different story if they’d just… laid out their plans or lack thereof for canada.

it is clear to me now if they had one strategy it was to fill the books with as many preorders as possible, regardless of wether or not those preorders are in regions they have no defined plans to service, in order to have a fat order book to point to for IPO time.

No doubt. That is exactly what they did. Capitalism is broken. There is no transparency.

Placed my order November 2021 for a R1S. From Vancouver, looks like my delivery window is October to December 2023. Which is surprisingly on track as I was slated 2H 2023 originally, I'm extra surprised since I switched to OC interior.

I’m not a businessologist, but I do know fostering customer goodwill is vital to having a sustainable business.

they haven’t done that.

2023 Rivian R1T
Rivian has definitely dropped the ball for Canadian pre-order holders. Sadly this isn't the first time and I expect it won't be the last. Sucks to see a few drop off but it's understandable. I'm too dug in now to peel out. Gas prices are steadily rising (and BC gets the worst of it in taxes and other surcharges), and I've already made accommodations for the R1T up at my cabin.

I agree though that they should have held off on doing ANYTHING with Canada until they were well established in the US and worked out all the kinks.

If you can afford to keep the deposit, I would recommend you keep your pre-order.
Cancelling your preorder, it will not make Rivian cry, and they will find someone else to fill that spot. But you can still benefit from it. Chance are the Rivian will be a unicorn and people will probably pay for it, especially in Canada.

The last few days, I have contemplated cancelling my pre-order on principal alone and Rivian would love that too, considering I have a free pre-order and a pre-march price.

But I have decided to keep my order and probably sell it. It is already out of date and will most definitely not compete with anything that is going to be on the market in the next two years.

I registered for a RS1 on October 23, 2022. I have not been requested to provide my configuration as yet. Given all the delays people are now experiencing I am becoming pessimistic about getting a vehicle before the end of next year. As a result, I contacted Rivian customer service today and they cannot tell me when I will be asked to provide my configuration and they would not provide a delivery ETA. Maybe because I am in Ontario there may be some hope, but the fact they don’t even want my configuration yet is troubling.

To me it’s not worth being strung along for two more years by a company that doesn’t seem to care about its customers.

I canceled based on the information Rivian gave me, which was that an update will come in January, but that the timeline is also indefinite.

Then today I see tony caravano in an interview with rivian stories (done yesterday!) providing more context and information than I’ve had in any communication from rivian - that from January delivery updates will be issued every 3 months, oh, and there’s further Max pack info coming in a few weeks.

if I knew that yesterday I’d have not canceled straight away and instead waited to see just what the information on max pack was.
But Rivian didn’t tell me shit.

2019 R1T LE preorder holder in TO. My window is July to Sept 2023. Seems like there is a small batch of us quite early order holders in Toronto with aligned timing. Mind you, i’ve had three previous delivery windows;) just not formally on the website.

BC 2020 Preorder - ETA Jan-Dec 2024 (sigh) - R1T quad/Maxpack manual cover

Which means to me possibly 1 day before 2025 (lol.) As stated in the big thread if they offer a dual motor maxpack for next summer 2023 I'll consider that based on how they make out rectifying the other inherent issues.

Those being, phantom battery drainage, suspension issues/noises, heat cycling tow issues, QC issues and a few more.

I feel if I am sacrificing something, then I would want everything else to be spot on.

My wife is so annoyed with the date change, that she is going to be driving the old F150 as her grocery-getter much longer, and I have the little Kona EV (which has 8000 km and has been really good so far btw) as my commuter vehicle.

I am placing a deposit on an F150 Lightning soon, which in watching videos apples to apples appears to be a better tow rig, and gets a little better range on the base battery. The new lightning now has a longer range battery available (stating 515 km vs Rivian 600km +/-) But it seems like the ford range so far has been understated, where as the rivian range is more close to maximum.

I just do not care for the (full) size footprint of the Lightning. (I already placed a too late deposit on the silverado.)

I'm actually glad that I never made an appointment to view the Rivian. It's kind of like, what's the point now, as if it comes 2 years from now, and I stick it out, some things will likely have changed.

Yeah feeling quite meh, but there is nothing else out there with a long range battery so..... whatever. Let's see who gets their trucks in production first. I hear the chip shortage issues are alleviating, that's positive. :)

From my email:
We plan to share more news on Max pack later this year, including an earlier launch for Dual-Motor + Max pack with deliveries starting in Summer 2023.

I have never received a delivery window. It was that one email that Rivian sent asking me to change my max pack to large pack to guarantee delivery in 2022. And, CS reiterated the same bullshit.

I think I speak for the entire forum when I say that there is zero chance of you receiving a vehicle next year if you just placed a reservation request for an R1S now. There may not be a strong chance for us Launch Edition preorder holders from 2018/2019 to receive ours next year either. Temper your expectations to avoid the mass disappointment faced by others on the Canadian subforum.

Did anyone who hasn't configured get a delivery window? I.e. did anyone who put a despoit for a 'place in line' get one?
