CarPlay and Android Auto maybe important to people, but I'm sure more automakers will starting moving away from CarPlay and Android Auto because of the lack of control of your data. When you use content via CarPlay or Android Auto, the data you use while working in CarPlay or Android Auto primarily goes to tech giants and not automakers. Controlling your data along with monthly subscriptions, etc.. is probably more valuable than the profit from the initial purchase of the vehicle.

Which is precisely why people need to bitch and moan about how important CarPlay is, as much as possible.

I am totally NOT making that up. Eucalyptus green in full watermelon

And if that is not watermelon-y enough then you can special order in Java Green with red interior

(There is something wrong with our friends in Munich.)
I would easily own a BMW if all their models didn't have the butt cheeks clinching in the front.

I might let you stop by for a flight. LOL

Six on tap, one English barleywine served properly on a beer engine and about 48°, a bit cooler than the typical cellar temp of 52°-54°.

They range from a nice pale ale, to American Strong, the barleywine rye barrel aged, Dopplebock, Belgian Dark Strong, and a 21% Imperial IPA. The lowest ABV is the pale ale at 6.2%.

you might have to ride share home. 🥴
Oh snap, I didn’t even notice you were in Vegas when I first responded. Haha

A 21% Imperial IPA, wow! That’s even higher than the Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. If I had more than one at that ABV, I would certainly need to Uber home. :CWL:

I used to homebrew but it’s been a few years. I miss it.

The fact that so many of you don’t want an editorial detailing objective opinions and truths is absolutely wild;
Yeah, you're probably right, most here probably didn't want to read an editorial that faults the sky for being blue and grass for being green. A) there's no such thing as an objective opinion. Presenting one's ideas as such is a bit obnoxious right out of the gate, particular on an enthusiasts forum where the opposite opinion is widely held. B) There are plenty of professional reviews which have already more eloquently pointed out the qualities and features ("truths") you found subjectively deficient so it's not exactly breaking news that Car Play ain't there and Fuchsia isn't part of the color palette.

Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to hold and express an opinion. It's fair, may even be productive to try and engage in discussion or debate before dropping such a large amount of money on a vehicle. But to walk into a community organized around the idea of common interest and basically start telling everyone that they're stupid and they smell funny, and to not expect a contrarian reaction denotes either troll behavior or a distinct lack of social awareness. Or both.

That right there is the issue with your post - your post contains mostly SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS, not objective opinions but you present and argue them as fact which will stir people up. Your list is filled with "I want", "I don't want", "I need", etc. - at least 17 times. That is not an objective opinion, is a subjective opinion based on your wants/needs/desires. Your rant about color choices, color picker, etc. is objective? ROFL.

And it's all presented under the pretext "Hopefully this information will be read by someone who can use the information to make a better product in the future! " as though you are the expert, you know exactly what is wrong with the product, and your list is what everyone wants.

You call out the responses here as "absolutely wild".

It's simple to understand. Your posts border on arrogance and you are getting pushback for that.

I've been told I'm the great minority on this one- I just don't care for AA/AC... what's is the point of mirroring my phone? Most time I know where I'm going and don't need to follow nav, I don't text much while driving either...Not a Tesla owner either to have a first hand experience with their native software, but I REALLY appreciate Rivian's native software, easy, intuitive, simple. I say that because I'm not a fan boy, but getting a real comparison with our recent ioniq 9- that vehicle is far better than Rivian in terms of ride, materials, battery, etc. But the software is absolute GARBAGE!
The point is that, in most cases, your phone already has all information already in it:
- Downloaded songs
- Audio books
- Calendar
- Preferred map app
- Contacts

Rather than a car trying to recreate all that, why not just have it access the device that is already in your pocket and, by default, up to date?

I blame Rivian for not being more clear and transparent on their intentions to integrate Apple Car Play into their vehicles. People like the person who made this post are being mislead. If Rivian is not going to support CarPlay they should say so publicly and stop tricking people into preordering and demo drives. Come on Rivian, do the right thing!!!

I don't really have a dog in this Android Auto/CarPlay fight, as I have Teslas and haven't needed or cared about CarPlay since 2021.

However, if Lucid can do it (despite how sh!!y their software is)...

It's almost as if Carplay and crappy software go hand in hand...

So tech-forward, leaving legacy automakers behind, future tech that I can't listen to music offline. Or listen to an audiobook. Or.... save waypoints in the map? Or open my garage door without clipping a big button to the visor?

I mean, I am 100% getting one but we can't pretend all these things are legacy nonsense that the future is leaving behind.
I love Android Auto, but I know you all have that moment with AA/AC where you're telling yourself "C'mon, Apple/Google, send an update!!" You will forever be limited by a company that doesn't care which car you're driving or your experience. This is what Rivian and future automakers are trying to avoid -- having the buyer experience soured by software they cannot control. Rivians plan is to have a dedicated software development team for third-party app integration and expansion. However, there are other priorities to complete before this -- mainly mass-market integration and profitability. There's a reason Scout and VW are investing in Rivians solution.

Spotify in the Rivian does not do offline music at all, as far as I'm aware. It does not do audiobooks. Podcasts are limited to what's on their store, as long as you're online.

If you're out of cell service, Spotify does not work. AM/FM don't work. SiriusXM doesn't work. There is no aux input. USB mass storage for music, podcast, or audiobook files doesn't work.

If you are out of cell range, you are limited to one option: Bluetooth from your phone.
YouTube Music has downloaded songs/podcasts -- just FYI.

Did you forget the sarcasm font? Rivian has been very clear about this. Anyone who expects and wants Apple CarPlay (note: I didn't say Android Auto because Android users are generally more investigative and not spoon fed technology) came to the table with that expectation and was never reaffirmed it would happen.

I must say…I’m genuinely curious why you bothered to post such a long winded message about all the things you didn’t like about the R2…on a Rivian forum.

I’ve owned mine for almost 2 years, and absolutely love it. I’ve also been a member here for a little longer, and not once have I felt the need to list out all the things I love about my R1T.

So, why make the effort? It comes off as either a “look at me“ moment, or some other ulterior motive (a Tesla fanboy, or you’re shorting the Rivian stock). But again…don’t you have better things to do? What exactly do you hope to accomplish by telling us how much you dislike this vehicle?
I didn't have much issue with the post aside from the car play stuff.

Why even reserve a Rivian if car play is on the top of your list of wants? Rivian leadership has always been crystal clear that CarPlay Support was out of the question.

I could understand if the poster said they reserved it despite knowing it never would have car play and they were backing out for other reasons and then listing those reasons.

I'm also a bit perplexed with the buy it now or never. Why? I'm not buying now but I'm not going to make a post about it. I'm just going to wait for the right time to buy.

It's not even a good idea generally to buy a vehicle during its first year of manufacture. You gotta give the manufacture time to sort out any issues. There are always issues.

Clearly you want to buy Apple Car play that has a vehicle to go with it.

Side note: In what Universe is Apple Maps better than Google Maps? None.
