Start it in the app, I don't think destination chargers are plug and play?

I have the TeslaTap Mini and it works like a charm, but you need to connect the adapter to the Tesla charger for 20-30 seconds BEFORE plugging it into your Rivian. I don't know why, but those are the instructions that came with it. You have any specific instructions with either of yours? It's also possible, I guess, that the unit you're using won't allow anything but a Tesla, but I've not heard of L2 chargers having that limitation. Have you seen anyone else charge successfully?

Hello my home has water damage and I am in a rental with a tesla level 2 charger. I have tried both this http://www.umc-j1772.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=99 and this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7MN8LZ2?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and both result in 'waiting on charger'. Any ideas?
The Tesla chargers can be setup to charge any car or Tesla only. Sounds like this one is set for Tesla only so it will not work. The owner would need to have it reconfigured to allow non_Teslas to charge.

What @KBabione said. Make sure you connect the Tesla plug to the adapter first, then wait a solid 30 seconds before plugging into the car.
I've used the TeslaTap at home and a number of hotels. I haven't had an issue when using the above technique.
Good luck!

1. Make sure the charger is set up to charge a non Tesla
2. Make sure the charger doesn't have a set schedule of operation. I have mine set to only work from midnight to 8am to take advantage of the lower electricity costs

I use a tesla charger at work. Even if the charger is set to accept non-tesla vehicles, it still shows an error at first but switches on after a bit. So, plug in, charge port will turn red showing an error, then a few seconds later it will turn green and you're good to go. Happens every time. Takes maybe about 30 seconds for it to actually kick over after you've plugged it into the vehicle.

His issue appears to not be an error which is what you are seeing. His issue is it is waiting on the charger. They have a bank of Tesla chargers at our health club, they are set to only charge Teslas, if I plug in I get the same message he is seeing.

@Mellowyellow brings up a good point as well, he would see that message if trying to charge outside of a scheduled charge window as well.

Sounds to me like the charger is commissioned to only charge Tesla. They can be setup one of three ways:

1) To charge only certain Tesla vehicles (I believe by VIN)
2) To charge only Tesla vehicles
3) To charge any EV

Contact landlord or property management would be the only way to remedy this one. Some EVs require the Tesla wall connector to be in a "compatibility mode" but Rivian is not one of them.

As someone above stated, the charge port turns red for several seconds before charging starts with Rivian vehicles charging on Gen3 Tesla WC units.

I have two Gen3 Wall Connectors with a power share setup. They are not in compatibility mode but are commissioned to charge any EV.

Lastly, there is also a way to setup WC as destination chargers where payment is required to use them. That's a popular setup for Apartment/Condo communities.

Thanks all. I have been speaking to the landlord and he seems to be trying to troubleshoot but don’t think he found the setting to change to any ev. Is it in an app?
