Quite strange. Drove on some really nasty washboarded roads on my way home from dinner today. Truck handled them great. Just happened to walk around back and had to WTF about this happening:

I've never really had the rack on the truck before, just happened to have it on there because I picked up a new bike today. Did a fantastic job catching the light bar though!

The "coincidence" of the rack being on exactly when that happened seems to unlikely. I wonder if the rack was hitting the light bar over and over on the washboards, and managed to pop it loose?

Let's say it was. (It's not). How did it unscrew the nuts securing the bar on the inside? Nothing is broken.

That is strange then! Rivian tech must have been missed the bolts!

Just kidding. But having swapped mine off, it has nylon? press fit pieces that keep it in place and somewhat secure, so you can then put the nuts on the smaller threaded metal posts from the inside of the tailgate. A 1/4" picquic screwdriver fits the nuts perfectly FYI. Broken lightbar was caused by me, not a fault or flaw.

Did those bolts have any threadlock on them or was there a lock washer?

So I looked at this closer since I pulled the light bar right off this morning. The bolts are actually studs with adjustable depth to them to help line up the light bar with the corner lights. You probably wouldn't want thread locker on them.

But, I highly suspect what happened is that the nuts weren't on to do the adjustment on the light, and just not replaced. The nylon studs definitely are there to hold it in place while it's being adjusted.

I didn't hear any rattling when I had the liftgate go up and down, nor on my drive this morning. Should be easy for others to check if they have nuts or not by just giving a yank on the light bar from the ends.
