Chemical smell inside after sitting closed

I just got back from a vacation and the rivian sat (outside, windows closed, hot inside) for about 9 days. There is now a very strong chemical smell in the interior.
Anyone dealt with that before?

FWIW: Leaking/outgassing 12V lead-acid batts emit a sulfur/rotten egg smell.

Got it - thats not the smell, its more like the plastics or something.

How new is your vehicle? Newly produced plastics outgassing under high cabin temps in new vehicles is pretty common.

Picked it up end of Feb this year, so fairly new. This is the first time it has sat closed in hot weather, that is probably all it is.

Most likely... my R1T was delivered mid Jan of this year and still has a rather strong "plastic" smell when it's been sitting closed up/unused for a few days in summer temps.

I’m old enough that some of these new car chemical smells bring about some nostalgia.

My mind can almost still smell the fresh mimeograph/ditto pages with purple printing which many of us kids would hold close to our nose and inhale. I think today it would be classified as huffing but back then it was just called handing out homework.

sitting in the heat probably released a lot of the plastic/vinyl odors. did you air it out? if the smell is gone or much less then i wouldnt worry

Mine sat in a hot garage for 2 months and I also noticed a very strong plastic/chemical smell when I first drove it again. I read a study years ago that the toxins you smell leaking from all the plastic in a new car is not very healthy (that new car smell), keep your windows down.....

Sounds like off gassing. Air it out and try to park in shade and see if the smell worsens.

My spare compartment also has a very strong chemical smell which has not gotten any better in the 7 months that I've had the R1T. Wondering what this is. It's way stronger than normal off gassing.
