Discount Tire failed to use jack pucks

I wish the yellow ones were available on Amazon. All they had was red when I purchased a couple weeks ago.

I got bit by Discount Tire on Saturday... I went in before they even opened, so I could be the first one in.

I asked them pointedly if they had pucks, this is the same shop that did my flat a few weeks ago, so of course they did.

I watched them pull it in, put the pucks on their jacks, and try to start jacking it up.. without taking the caps off.

I yelled at the manager, "they about to screw up my truck, you might want to stop them!"

He runs out to tell them to stop. And then comes in and asks me whats up. They didnt remove the jacking point caps, and were about to jack it up by the incorrect place, and that would cost you as thats not the jacking point, and would damage the under cover.

I went out to show the manager, and the techs, what was going on, on the drivers side..

Then I get over to the passenger side, where they had already jacked it up... Fuck.

The guy jacking up the front passenger actually had removed the cover, and jacked it up correctly.

The guy jacking up the rear passenger had no idea what he was doing, or what he had done.

So they did my rotate and balance, and told me to get a price for the replacement of the rear passenger side plastic cover. I think thats the cheap one.

Here we go again!! Glad you were paying attention. I simply cannot comprehend this from DT?! This has happened countless times to people, hence why, I had to make our Jack Point Identifier Emblems for our vehicles. Silly.

They used the excuse that they dont see these very often, and were not educated on the proper procedure..

To a point, I get what he is saying. There are only 3 Rivians in my city, including mine..

But if you dont know, Google it, ask the owner, something! Just dont assume, and damage stuff.

well that sucks. I'm in the south Denver suburbs and have never had an issue with my local discount tire. There are a lot of Rivians down here though.

I have a good relationship with Discount Tire in my area; however, like the OCD dude I am, I go out to my truck when they pull it up to the bay and walk them through the process every stinking time the whole process. I can't wait until my labels arrive, but I will still do it.

When I went down to our local discout tire, I talked with the manager regarding the training given on Rivian's unique lifting situation. He said he had to watch a video and knew exactly how to lift a Rivian and showed me the pucks. Guess what, he is the only one that gets to watch the video and he isn't the tech that will lift your car.

ive been trying to warn people to either stay away from DT or make sure you observe the entire process because chances are they will screw it up. and worse is they reached out to me via this forum to make it seem like they were following up but then the local store never actually contacted me.

I'm not one to usually resurrect an old thread, but I found this in my garage, and the most recent lift done on my truck was at a Discount Tire in Spokane, WA:

Wonder if they need that back...

Might be best practice to just remove these yourself before going to any shop. So easy to do and great for peace of mind, plus it allows for use of a lift. Pucks shouldn’t be used for a four point lift. I’d like to say that it’s fool-proof, but some dope always finds a way.

Always watch the Tire Monkeys with a close and discerning eye!

We have several America's Tire locations in our area and the closest if about 2 miles from the house. I refuse to go there and instead will drive an extra 15 minutes to the one that's always done good work. The Close one took a torque wrench to the locking bolt on the Tesla Roadster a few years ago and put so much torque on it they stilted the key. They then said to go next door to Tesla and get a new one as it wasn't their fault. The problem with that item is it's a Lotus part and it only took a week to get it replaced...to which the monkeys didn't offer to pay for. Moral of the story...watch them closely and don't be afraid to stop them.
