I’m with most of you…PAAK and keycard always in wallet. I’m on and off with the keyfob because I like it.
BUT…how many of you have actually ever tested your keycard to make sure it actually works?!
Oh good point. I’m so conditioned to always have the fob with me for all my other vehicles, I … just… can’t… walk out the door without it.

I may need to start after noticing my spouse believes it totally acceptable to hook the key fob on a belt buckle. After reading the posts here about people finding out the hard way that the spring in the carabiner is not as strong as one expects, I may need to only use PaaK and the key card.

My precious…

Sincerely,
Sméagol

Curious if you hide the key card somewhere on the exterior of the truck? I use a small magsafe apple wallet on the back of my phone that only fits 3 cards (license, debit card, credit card) so I really can't fit the Rivian key card in there. Curious what you're doing
No, it’s on the interior. When PaaK has failed, I have still been able to use the app to unlock the truck. I can then get the keycard from the hidden location and use that to drive. Hiding on the outside is too much of a security risk IMO.

Seems like you'd be up a creek for a bit if your phone dies or your phone (or the truck) cannot get a signal if PaaK fails. I've had PaaK fail on me several times, though I've always been at home where the truck has a good connection. That said, I agree with you on not hiding the card on the truck itself, but hiding it inside the truck carries its own risks.

It might fail, yeah, but I’ve been using PaaK on all my EVs for the past 3+ years and it’s worth the risk. I haven’t had an issue with the Rivian’s PaaK not working at all since maybe like March 2023 or so. The convenience for my use cases is just too good to pass up.

I’ve been in plenty of places with little to no cell reception and PAAK has been flawless.

That is good to hear, but I've had the complete opposite experience with PaaK. It works about 90% of the time for me which is way too low to rely on. In fact it failed just last night when I went out to get something I left in the truck. Fortunately these failures have always been at home.

Right, but PaaK doesn't need a cell signal to work properly; it uses bluetooth. My point was that when PaaK fails, you want your backup (keycard or fob) to be outside the truck so you can use it even in cases where you're in an area with no signal since you'd otherwise have no way to unlock the truck.

I like the belts+suspenders look! I keep my keycard inside a Spigen cellphone case for my Pixel. I can use PaaK or Keycard (as long as I don't lose my phone).

Works a treat. :)

(like many others, I find the PaaK sometimes extremely slow and unreliable)

Only key card unless going on a longer trip where I may want to give the fob to someone or not be able to use my phone. Without PAK, I would likely carry the fob.

PAAK for me. I keep a key card in my wallet as back up, though.

The first few days I had my Rivian I clipped the keyfob on my belt loop like I've done with all my other vehicles, but quickly realized it was sort of redundant. It's been stored away at home ever since.

I carry it all, my phone as a PAAK, the key card in my wallet, and the key fob in my pocket. I refitted my key FOB into a plastic surround to make it easier to carry. That carabiner surround is not very functional and in the way.

I only use my phone.

I do not carry a wallet anymore so the card is not a particularly convenient size/shape for a backup.

The time it takes Rivian to see the phone and unlocks does seem to ebb and flow with various software updates that Rivian doesn't seem to test. But it aside from a few times when I forgot that I turned Bluetooth off on my phone it has never failed to unlock the door.

Always use PAAK and have key card in my wallet. I don't always have my wallet, but have never had any issues with PAAK.

I exclusively use my phone as a key, but I always have a keycard in my wallet in case something fails. I encourage everyone to keep a keycard on them at all times because both the PAAK and the KeyFob do require network verification and if anything happens that prevents the truck from performing that verification, then you cannot get in and you cannot drive.

The keycard is the only access system that does not require network authentication and is the only thing that would work if the authentication system is unavailable or offline.
