I did have a loaner recently that was a March 2022 built R1T with 8k miles. Power tonneau would function, but would only open 1/4- 1/2 of the way, before the panels seemed to pop upward, causing it to get stuck.
I haven't been around other R1Ts really, but my panels all sit proud of eachother slightly where they interface with eachother, except for the ones closest to the tailgate. Those two are the only ones I'll occasionally hear a popping noise from as it seems like they might be getting stuck together. Like the last one isn't meshing right when it needs to push the second to last one down into the cartridge. It hasn't done it in a long time though.

Haven't attempted to lubricate the panels themselves at all but I did do the rails after getting some dirt in them. Had to pressure wash them clean and it seemed like the right thing to do.

Last time I used it before I loaded my camper it was working fine, it's disabled in the computer now.

Never lubed it once just sprayed the tracks out with a pressure washer periodically.
went crooked and jammed first week June '22
pop up SC removed it.
Our two cents in the real world:
as far as we are concerned we DO NOT want nor need any Tonneau - ever.
We offered to swap the cost they would incur for anything even close to what it would cost them to replace it.
simplify the walls and remove all the mechanisms.
they insist on replacing it and no credit.
We think we will simply walk away.
Since we have used and abused the T as a work truck for 18,000 miles we see no way that complicated mess will last another week if that.
Sure, it may be nice on a family road trip, there's always enough room in frunk or back seat for anything of value.

Mine failed at 8mo and 20k miles. Used at minimum 6 times a week. I did periodically blow out the channels with compressed air. Damn…I really miss that option

My covers still ~work, a year later. If I use a power washer to wash the channels and opening I can usually get it to open all the way. After a few days it reverts to only opening halfway or so.

I think I somehow got some small rocks into the storage area of mine, because now the cover has scratches on the surface that slowly increase each time it closes and opens.

I love the cover, and wish it worked perfectly always. It's fantastic to be able to take luggage on a trip in a rainy season, or to fill the bed with cardboard and then drive to the recycling center without worrying about it flying out.

I definitely have some little stones in there too -- not great. Seems like they sometimes get eaten by the storage area at the front of the bed. When they get stuck between the slots the sound is pretty gnarly.

I was half expecting to walk out this morning to it no longer working...

I will say that I hit the rails with grease every few months. Unclear on how effective that actually is

Mine's in the operational phase still.... 21k miles or so. Really makes a racket and you can see where each panel is hitting the top of the opening in the middle as it'll make a thump sound and push the plastic panel upwards. If I try and hold that panel up a little; works much easier.

I do wonder for those of us that haven't broken ours before our warranty runs out; will they replace or not... As I know it's only a matter of time with how much noise mine makes...

The power tonneau still works fine*. I have lubed the channels one time. I'd rather have an aftermarket "BAKflip", which served me well on previous trucks.

*I avoid using it.

Still working after 26k miles and 16 months. I nervously use it 3-4 times a week. It popped and banged a couple times on day 1, but then calmed down.

Interesting that responses as if this post show 90% working. Based on all the FB and forum posts, I thought I was special.

Mine still works about as well as the day it was new. I do dry lube the tracks and did so early and often. My truck is kept fairly clean so I know that helps as well.

Ours broke 1 year ago. We have now used up 25k of the warranty period with it non functioning. We miss it and really hope to have a fixed one by winter….

Mine works with a caveat- when the the weather started heating up - the third and 4th panels on the passenger side starting catching and getting stuck. During warmer days, I need to apply pressure to those two in order for it to work open and not get stuck.
I definitely feel lucky it is still usable, especially when it starts raining in PNW.

This is exactly why I started this thread.

people love to come on forums to complain.

Even though the the tonneau has a design flaw it now as bad as everyone says. I seriously use mine many times a week. I am never nervous about using it. I just make sure I don’t use it with debris on it (small rocks or twigs) and I lube it monthly.

I am hoping everyone with functioning tonneau covers let's Rivian know that is case, once the fix is available, and then Rivian can take care of all the broken ones first, and then when they have time to fit in all the functioning covers, they can retrofit without disrupting service for everyone else with other problems that would be higher priority than upgrading a truck with a working cover.
