I made a couple of 5+ hour drives this past weekend and each time I tried an EA charger it took at least 5 minutes to connect to the car. I even had to move to a different charger one time. Is this consistent with others' experience, or is there anything I should do to improve? I have a loooong trip scheduled for next month and don't want to waste 5-10 minutes at each charging stop just trying to connect. Man I really miss the plug in and walk away functionality of a tesla charger.

Are you using the app to start your charge or paying by CC on the screen?
I've been using EA for a while and over the past ~6 months I've found connecting to be flawless if I follow their requested procedure:
1 Plug in to the Rivian
2 Swipe "Initiate Session" in the app for the matching charger

That's it. No errors or delays in quite a while.

I'm using my phone, but it doesn't even get to the point where it can read my phone. I just spins saying connecting to vehicle.

I have had this happen a couple times with EA and I suspect it is trying to replenish the auto funding for my account and for whatever reason it just stalls out. Before I switch chargers I will try unplugging, canceling that charge on the screen, closing the EA app on my phone, then starting over in the app and it usually works The second time.

Yes, this is all "normal" for those trash stations, and you're lucky if they work at all. I've never once had a fully good EA charge. There are always multiple connects, and/or slow charging, and/or random disconnects.

Emotional stages of a Rivian charging stop

Denial...there's simply no way that these companies can make chargers that are so incredibly unreliable. How can this whole station be dead?

Anger...they've let me down again!

Bargaining...the third time you reconnect, and hold your arms in a certain way, to let the charger know that you mean business. Fourth time you start praying to your deity of choice that you will stop drinking, eating junk food, and searching Google for...well, you know.

Depression...how am I supposed to get where I'm going now? What will I do for the next hour? What have I done???

Acceptance...well, I can walk. There's Uber and Lyft. And tow trucks. I probably won't die.

Hope...Oh look, EA just announced (AGAIN) that they are retrofitting chargers to be more reliable! YAY!

For what it’s worth I only ever have trouble at EA if I try to initiate using the screen on the charger. No problems ever (although in fairness my experience DC fast charging is limited), when initiating via the app.

I time or two I have finally just pulled out my credit card and it starts right up, but I don't think you get the pass+ pricing when you do that, correct?

Correct, but I have NEVER EVER been able to get the NFC readers to work at all. And 50/50 on starting from the app. The NFC readers won't read the pass nor a credit card. Just incredible garbage.

Oh, BTW, if you use the Bluedot app or their card, you get 20% extra back on all charging. Even if you get other discounts, you get that much more. I don't know if we are allowed to post referral codes here, but I guess I will try it, because then it means both people get a bonus. But even without it, this is well worth doing for the savings. It can be a pain to set up, and could take a few days for the first transfer, but then it works fine every time. Code: carlosa7065 (Case sensitive!)

It happens with EA. Part of the experience. Rather than waiting 5 minutes… Cancel and try again resolves it sometimes. My charging experience at Supercharger has been far more consistent.

Yeah, last weekend I was traveling with 2 EV virgins. Seeing me fight with the chargers doesn't help convert anyone.
