I have a 2-1/2 ton floor jack. I plan on doing my own tire rotations. I know the manual calls for 3 ton. You think the 2-1/2 will be ok or bad idea?

If the manual calls for 3T I would do that. These trucks are stupid heavy.

Get the high lift Daytona 3 T. 24" Lift. While you only need 20" with a standard jack puck, the added height is nice for the rear of your R1.

The manual calls for a cross rotation (front to opposite rear, rear to front)
The Harbor Freight Daytona 3 ton are cheap. I suggest 2 floor Jacks to make the job quick and easy. .With the height involved, using one jack, then putting the car on a stand and repositioning the jack is sketchy as the weight on the stand does not stay centered (at least when I did it). After first one like that I just got a second 3 ton; One for each wheel being removed. If you just do front to back one jack is probably OK.

Unless you do a 5-wheel rotation, you only have to jack one at a time, you play round robin and just move one wheel at a time, following the rotation pattern.

I had two jacks that were both 2 ton jacks. I used one front and one back on my Rivian. Both jacks failed after a few tire changes. The jacks were old and the seals failed so they would not lift the truck. They did not fail structurally. I bought 2 new 3 ton jacks from Harbor Freight when they went on sale for $100 each. So far they have worked fine. Buy jacks with the maximum lift height you can find. I think mine are 21 inches. Father's Day would be a good time to shop.

Crossing tires from left to right side does not always work. My Michelin X-ice snow tires are directional install only so crossing the tire to the opposite side results in wrong way rotation. Make sure you are not using tires that can only roll in one direction if you are using the recommended rotation sequence. Two jacks make the job lots easier. One jack can do it but it makes the work a little more difficult and dangerous. I also have a battery powered impact wrench that makes quick work of removing the lug nuts. I can rotate my tires in less time then it takes to drive to the tire store.

Uh, no. Sell it and get a higher rated one, or two. I use two 3.5 tons.

I use an eight ton bottle jack. The issue is the truck will slip away from the jack just enough to tilt the jack. I will be buying a proper jack on wheels. The bottle jack will be used when away from home.

OK, so I'll buy a 3-1/2 ton floor jack. I'm building a couple rennstand remixes that extend to >23" and hold jack pucks. I like the idea of having the truck on proper stands during the rotation and with two it'll be easy to do a cross rotation. Thanks guys.

Funny seeing this thread today. I had a 2.5 ton jack. Just sold it on Marketplace for $5 bucks last week. It's not likely to lift any vehicle I'll ever own in the future, LOL. ??

I've used these jack stands, which work well with our magentic jack pucks. There are a number of options to rotate your tires, but you should always have a high lift floor jack that has excess capacity. I use the HF I mentioned because it has readily lifted both my R1T and R1S with minimal effort over the past 2.5 years. The floor jack itself weighs 100lbs. It's robust. There are other options, like the off-road version of the HF floor jack pictured below.

Or you could just take it to a Discount tire location. They are approved by Rivian and it is free.

Yeah, I thought about Discount Tire but given that I've seen maybe five R1 vehicles in my area I'm thinking I'll let the guys at my local DT practice on somebody else's truck before I let them practice on mine. Still a little precious...
