For those with a Trigger 4Plus only

Just kidding. Anyone can contribute, but i'd like to hear from those who have installed the Trigger 4Plus.

I just wanted to know your long term thoughts on the Trigger 4Plus 12V power distribution system.
I know some of you have had yours for about a year plus, based on threads here.
Any complaints?

It seems to be the easiest choice for those adding Lights when compared to something like a Switch Pros.
I'm hesitant on the possibility of battery drain, but I have seen no complaints on that. Maybe some issues with the app or the remote.

So chime up and let us know how it is going.
Or, Did you rip it out and install something else?

It's overpriced, but are popular on Jeeps and people don't complain about them. You'd never notice battery drain on an EV since it would just charge from the main battery.

How is it easier than the Switch Pros or other similar products? And how many lights? I've only added one pair, on a basic wireless switch for about $20

Good point on the drain. I just see the posts "my 12v is dead ", but That is likely other issues.

I have not installed it so I don't know if it is factually easier. Compared to a Switch Pros, I won't have to run a line through the firewall to mounted panel. Not super hard, but just easier.
Skookum makes a mounting bracket specif to the Trigger for a nice mounting point.

I just installed the Trigger with the Skookum mounting bracket a month or so ago and it's been fine! No 12v battery issues or any warning lights. I don't really use the app (it functions adequately but it just a little old school in appearance). The physical switches have been solid; no need to re-pair or anything. I will say it shipped with dead watch batteries for the wireless switch, so that took a little troubleshooting during install. If you go this route, just know the switch backlights should stay on for several seconds when you flip the switches. No backlight = dead watch batteries.

I'm about a year in with mine - no issues with 12V battery drain or function. Used at least once per week, often more frequently. Replaced remote batteries once. I don't often use the app.

Random, but how’d you get the frunk tub spacer out where you mounted the bracket? Trying to do this without removing the whole frunk tub, as that seems excessive, and I can’t get this spacer out. Almost seems like it’s glued to the metal.

I went with a cheaper 8 channel from Amazon - super happy with it so far. Like that the remote is rechargeable (or can be powered by USBc). And I’m already set up using 5 channels, so more are being set up shortly (rock lights).

@the.phd a the rear middle panel over the HVAC intake? It just pulls up and off. Or on the sides by the hood hinges? You will need to take that rear middle panel out before you can take out the front tub as it hides two of the mountain bolts.

I‘ve had my trigger 4 plus for over a year and no issues. I simply keep mine controller under the armrest lip and then can keep by my hand when on backroads. Has worked great actually like that setup better than my Bronco with integrated controls.

Dang. yea, you'll need more than the 4. I was looking at switchpros too, but it gets even more expensive. So, you made a good choice.

Good to know. That's my plan as well. I really like the Idea of the wireless switch I could hide them or display them. Its funny, I like the switches on the bronco and thought about dash mounting this to feel the same. It would not look good with the Rivian's clean interior though.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I removed the whole tub to install other stuff. However, I still think it's possible. From memory, you remove a long bolt fastening the tub to the truck, then the bracked will slip between the tub and mounting point, then you'd reinstall the bolt. Hope that is correct and helps!

So there’s a spacer there you remove, which is threaded opposite of a normal screw, so it’s righty loosey lefty tighty, which the instructions don’t make clear when they tell you to remove the bolt.

once I found that out it came out really easy.

I just installed some fog lights with the Skookum brackets. On the 12 volt battery I see several posts to choose from for the 12 volt lead of the fog lights. Which post did you use and does it make a difference? Did you happen to take a picture of how you wired your Trigger to the battery? I installed some Diode Dynamics SSC2 lights directly to the battery and shortly after am seeing a replace 12 volt warning message on the dash.

Hey, sorry you're having trouble! Disclaimer - I'm a slightly experienced DIYer, so don't consider this expert advice...

Easy question first - I don't think the post you select matters, just grab an empty one-- as I recall, they are are all electrically connected anyway, right? (you're looking at that red plastic enclosure?). I don't have any photos, sorry.

If it were me, I'd try and get that 12v issue cleared before doing anything further with your mods. How old is your truck and VIN? A lot of people are legitimately going through 12v issues right now so maybe it's just coincidence. If you go to Rivian for the 12v issue, I'd be nervous about them blaming the mods and causing drama. I'd suggest disconnecting your modifications (pulling the inline fuse should do it), charge your truck overnight, do a full truck reboot in the am, and see if the message clears. Ideally, if you have a multimeter, check your battery voltages before and after charging. If you don't have a meter, you can check in the service mode menu, but if you have two 12v batteries on an early build that gets obscured or averaged together.

Also, I'd suggest you travel with a 12v jump pack, know the procedure to jump from the connectors near the tow hitch, and carry tools you'd need to get yourself moving again if the 12v dies. I've read once you get that warning sometimes you only have a day to a couple weeks before you're screwed. If the overnight charge and hard reboot don't clear it, get that ticket open with Rivian right away for a new battery.

I can try an help if you have any follow up questions and I can probably get you some pics of my setup if you get stuck, but it's just red to red and black to black.

Thanks for the advice! My R1S is 10 months old vin ending in 032966. I have the single battery with the cap setup. The only other accessory I have connected to the battery is an amplifier with a 25amp fuse. I’ve never had an issue with low battery since.

I ended up charging for a few hours then a soft reset. Fortunately the error message didn’t come back.

I just started looking into the jumping procedure so I can be prepared in case I do get a dead battery. Does jumping the car use another 12v battery as the source or can you use a rechargeable type battery jump starter?
