So I just wanted to say just that, free charging is good, and thank you very much to Rivian for providing this. We all gotta agree, 20 bucks is 20 bucks. Of course this will end at some point, but untill then, I'm taking advatage of this perk.
I've had nothing but good luck with my R1T and the RAN system after almost a year of ownership. Always worked for me.Truck was into service one time for a front end alignment and the front suspension nuts tightening.
I've yet to get smoked in a race.
I've hauled lotsa stuff.
Never been stuck or dead or blacked out.
Once had charging troubles in the heat.
Looks like I got a good one. Lucky me.
Rivian, I think you've done well.
One opinion from one guy.

I don't get free charging from RAN but my opinion is the same. I've had it a year and it still amazes me how good it is considering my other cars are 911 TTS and Cayenne Turbo Coupe. I can't wait to see what's in store for Rivian in the next few years.

Thank you for voicing your positive Rivian experiences. I’ve only had mine for a few months but love everything about it so far. Sure a few annoying instances, but overall I F’ing love the car. I sometimes get overwhelmed reading posts on forums and such with all the negative stories/experiences. It’s nice to know I’m not there only one who’s enjoying the Rivian. ?

Replying to the free charging concept, nothing good ever happens to a free resource as individuals maximize their benefit over the benefit for all and exhaust the resource, a concept known as the tragedy of the commons.

You can see this real life by seeing how VW ID.4 owners who received two years of unlimited free EA charging are more than happy to charge to 100%, start a charge at 70% SoC, and otherwise ruin the experience for others wishing to access EA chargers.

Realizing the foolishness of this, the benefit was changed to unlimited 30 minute charging so now it is abused by unplugging and starting a new session. You can also see it at an L2 charger, someone plugs in all day, charging to 100% and/or not moving the EV when the charge is complete.

So while I would love to charge for free, I accept the need to pay for it in the longer term.

Agree 100%!

I know it won't be free forever, but I sure appreciate it while it lasts.

I finally got to try a RAN station the other day for the first time in my second month of ownership when I decided to hit the station near my doctor's office before driving 40 miles home. Other than me not pulling up close enough to the charger for the cable to reach ?‍♂ it could not have been easier. I added 130 free miles while I sat in my truck reading news and checking emails.

Thank you Rivian!

Might have been Texas. Having never been there before, but heard there's nothing there but steers and...

+1...basically said what I would. Free charging sucks because people abuse it.

One could argue if you are paying unsubsidized (i.e. post March 2021) pricing you are probably subsidizing that "free" charging.

Tesla provided "free" charging to its initial adopters as a perk of ownership knowing that they would probably deal with a lot if issues as they went through growing pains.

I don't think Rivian is any different in that regard.

I'd like to add my thank you to Rivian also. I've used the RAN's Clackamas/Madras/Primeville here in Oregon a few times visiting family. It is always been a great stop, run the dog and we're off. No they won't be free forever, but I still appreciate it.

I finally get to pick up my R1S on the 21st in Portland..

just curious what does it typically cost to "fill" it? I know my Tundra seems to always be thirsty...

It's always a question that I hear, " How much does it cost to "fill it"
1. Shouldn't be " filling it " on a regular basis...
2. From 5% to 70% its around 15-20 dollars at home, going to EA for example it's around 30ish plus dollars.
( roughly 210 miles, depending on how you drive, how many hills, etc. )
I'm sure others experience is different, depends on where you live and how much your power is, mine is 15 cents a KWH off peak, if I charge from 4pm to 9pm it's nearly 50 cents.
I live in Southern California
