After a week in the shop, it was decided to have the Drive Unit be replaced per Rivian Engineers. It was a good thing someone was proactive in ordering the Drive unit, before dropping off the vehicle.

another week without the vehicle, Hopefully I won’t have any issues once I get the vehicle back.

I’m miss driving the vehicle.

I notice you frequently call your truck “the vehicle”. You should name it. Or at least call it THE vehicle.

I feel your pain. Mine was in the SC for a month getting a new rear drive unit and charging components.

hopefully your time apart will be shorter.

I had the same issue, SC replaced front motors and components, it took three weeks to get it back. No issues about driving right now, vehicle condition is good.

My month old R1S went into turtle mode several times and they finally said they are replacing the rear drive unit. Have others had good luck with this repair? Does the drive unit include the two motors, or do they attach the motors to the new drive unit?

My rear drive unit was replaced a couple months back. It’s been fine since. Not sure if they swapped the motors or went with new ones.

I am curious what the failure rate has been on these. Hopefully they learn from the early glitches and improve.

Was the repair successful? Do you know if they install new motors?

I had the rear drive unit fail 3 days after picking up my R1S. It's been with the SC for a week so far and they have the new unit on order. I'm hoping to get it back soon!

Curious to figure out if this is something I should expect to see fail again or if a one-time fix will be sufficient.

I know this is just anecdotal and may not be relevant, BUT I had a very early Model S and the drive unit had to be replaced. The replacement lasted 8 years and had zero issues. With these electric motors they seem to fail early If they are going to fail.

The one downside to the Quad is that you have 4 drive units that could possibly fail versus the more simple set up of the dual motor version with fewer points of failure.

As annoying and inconvenient as it is, I wouldn't be too worried about long term reliability of the vehicle platform, but obviously we'll see how widespread the failures are this year as so many more hit the road.

OP is not sure he is in a committed relationship yet.
