Some people whine endlessly over how buggy Apple Music rollout has been... But want video casting "right f'ing yesterday!" Which is it? Instant gratification or a thoroughly tested new release? Perfect illustration why Rivian should just stick to its own plan and time table—because they can never please everyone no matter what they do.

OK some historical data courtesy of Electrafi:

2024.39 started public rollout on 10/15 (week 42)
2024.35 started public rollout on 9/27 (week 39)
2024.31 started public rollout on 9/4 (week 36)
2024.27started public rollout on 8/14 (week 33)
2024.19 started public rollout on 7/3 (week 27)

I think the release numbers have little to do with the week of the year... July's update was 2 months in testing if that's true. And I doubt that was the case.

What are the perks of Google Cast? I understand that everyone is hyped to have this feature, but I have no idea what we can do with it. Cast our phone screen to the main screen for videos/netflix/hulu??
Practically every video streaming app on android and iphone have the ability to "cast" the video to a device that supports casting. You'd be able to cast HBO, Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, Peacock, Disney+, etc. etc. to your screen to watch video while parked. There's also the ability to mirror one's phone via cast as well but I'm not sure how beneficial that will be in this setting. I use this for showing photos from my phone to my TV at home. I assume all of this will only work in park, which is fine. I loved having video apps to watch shows while charging in my Tesla.

This functionality, if it works well, is even better than what the Tesla has. Tesla has entire youtube, netflix, hulu, and disney apps built in. While you can interact with the apps on the touchscreen, you are limited to these providers. With cast, you aren't limited by what apps the car has built in... if your phone has an app for it or can otherwise cast it, so can your Rivian.

That's what in-vehicle hotspot and tablets are for. And you can do that already.
Sure I know that's a possible solution. It's just not as elegant. You're also not guaranteed to have the tablet in the car when you need it. When we tell the kids to bring the tablet, they now EXPECT to be watching something, telling them they can't is a huge fight. If every once in awhile we instead allow them to watch something on the integrated screen when they weren't expecting it, they view it as a huge reward.

I know it's first world problems. And I don't expect Rivian cast will support this, at least not initially. But it should be noted that the Tesla rear seat screen does support video while car is in motion today. So the request is not some extremely obscure thing to desire.

@EVTrukHog @Dark-Fx Yup I stand corrected, you are right.

@HapticWagon looks like it is coming Dec 2024 now

There is typically a lag between the week in the naming nomenclature and the actual week it is launched. The 43rd week of 2024 was last week of October but we have not yet seen 2024.43.
Have you considered looking at historical data? I believe the second number is actually a reference to the week their first release candidate version of that update is supposed to get locked.

We're supposed to be getting 2024.43 any day now... currently in week 47 of the year.

Dear Rivian, your lack of casting has forced me to go back to buying pornographic magazines again. Please help. Those stores are very creepy.

To me, the complaints are more of a symptom of an underfunded software team / lack of man-hours. Should Apple Music be better? Yes. Should casting have been released yesterday? Also yes. Does Rivian have the capital to splurge on software right now? Unfortunately not, it seems.
