Same with mine. My R1s completely dead. I got a “preventative call” to do the 12V replacement and the rep said it wasn’t urgent since they scheduled me for Feb 2025. But same day i tried to open my car and it was completely dead. Waiting on service to get back to me as to when they can replace it. They are arranging a car rental for me. But still very concerning since it could have died on me when i was outside and stranded.
Wow, my service center setup a mobile appointment basically immediately which was nice but still not soon enough.

Can we do the 12V battery maintaning ourselves? We have one at home and wondering if we can check and maintance it once awhile?
Sad to hear the many complaints about DEAD 12v batteries.
IMHO, if you are not driving your Rivian, or any vehicle for that matter, on a regular basis, then the 12v battery will prematurely die

i kept my 2000 Corvette plugged to a trickle charger all the time, and my ORIGINAL 12v battery lasted 20 years!

what kills 12v batteries is the constant charge/discharge cycle which occurs when you do not drive the BEV or ICE vehicle on a regular basis….like everyday

Guilty of not driving or charging every day. December 22 build, ~6200 miles, and I got the warning light at midnight Monday morning. Chatted with service at that time, local center called me around noon Monday and asked when I could be available Tuesday for replacement(s).

They arrived and succeeded in replacing both batteries Tuesday morning.

The tech was accustomed to doing the update and told me they are covering it outside of the standard warranty because the original batteries were a known issue.

And for the record, the automated scheduling system can't prioritize so the service center does once they see the reason for the corporate appointment.

All that said, squeeky wheel get the grease. I didn't wait and called in at 9am Monday to make sure it was being looked at. I was nice, friendly, but persistent. Works like a charm. Except on my wife...

Rivian really needs to fix that system. It should be alot easier to use from the customer side of things.

Clarification....by system I meant the service scheduling but the 12v system could use a better battery location and accessibility when dead too.
