Any idea on which one(s) gave you the most bang for the buck?
The door frames, door jams for sure. And the piece of dynamat just above the air conditioner, less rattle sound now when it is in full blast.

Rest of the fixes are OK.

I'm sure wheel wells will make a big difference, but honestly I don't know how to pull them out etc. Never done that before. But that would be another area which will make a big difference.

Wanted to add a data point. Got my car back from service for wind noise. I'm don't know of all the areas they worked on but the gasket was definitely replaced on the front driver side door and window. The car is now whisper quiet (aside from tire noise) on the highway at 70mph.

BTW, I added few more

- uxcell rubber seal (4mm/5mm) on the top of the sunroof, between the seams.

- small seals on the vertical insides of the plastic housing where the air filter rests (gave me a chance to replace the air filter as well)

I'll see if I can take more pictures and add later..

Still thinking on the under floor carpet... seems daunting and not sure of time spent vs return.

Yes, the seals and gaskets i have seen definitely seen variances even from one door to another where a 4mm seal will be okay, whereas another door a 6mm seal will be needed.

If you're doing any sound reduction work, door jams, door frames and windshield outer frames are the best to do.

Then the wheels / wheel wells (If I can figure out how to tackle that)

More pictures and data points as mentioned above.

Pictures refer to the following

- dynamat piece near air filter cover
- dynamat piece near air conditioner
- uxcell 4mm rubber seal dash side between the leather and plastic (where some may have had rattles)
- rubber seals vertically added two sides in the plastic housing where the air filter resides
- uxcell foam (4mm /5mm/ 6mm) in some seams top sunroof side in place of rubber seals or T shaped magnetic seals.

Made this as a separate entry, in case anyone is looking for details.

With air conditioner on (cool), fan level 2, Seat cool on (level 1), below are the sound meter observations-

~62dB at 65mph
~64dB at 70mph
~67dB at 75mph
~69dB at 80mph

There is still a small amount of wind sorta noise ('whoosh' sound) that you can hear above 80mph, which I attribute to any/all of the following

- tires (i have the 21")
- something on the sunroof side

I guess the wheel wells' sound deadeners would probably help cut off some of this noise, but not all of it. Again, just my hypothesis.

Did you notice a big difference in wind noise reduction after installing the foam in the seam along the top sunroof? This is where I believe I have the last bit of wind noise, coming from top front roof area. I did not have a chance to address it yet.

I just returned from long drive with my wife’s Telsa and wow, the Rivian is so much quieter and smoother. Driving them side by side uncovers the disparities.

Fantastic data point. Sounds like your electric motors are also quiet. I am close to 78db at 50mph with hvac off. Have done the door seal and that helped (80 down to 78) but I would love sub 70db levels.

I definitely notice the difference since I added it.

I still have a bit of area left in the seams in the middle of the large sunroof area to cover, waiting for the seals to come from Amazon.

78 seems harsh. Hope other fixes help..

Did you do both inside and outside door frames, and the seal on the insides of the tracks of the windows?

Did you try adding the aero wheel covers? This might reduce noise.

I haven't removed the wheel covers that came with the vehicle... are you referring to that or extra covers to be swapped?

So to clarify, you put dynamat around the plastic funnel/intake piece for the air filter? Did that make a difference? I guess I didn’t realize that’s how the ac compressor noise was getting through.

No, no. I did not put any dynamat around the air filter. I put piece of rubber seals (two of them, vertical) in the air filter housing.

Dynamat was only on top of the tube near the air conditioning unit. And across that area, and not around the pipe, but just above it.
