Alexa, open the charge door. Or charge port door. I forget which.
Does Alexa in the vehicle work before you hit the brake pedal to fully wake the vehicle?

Yeah, it’s a silly missing piece. As another Tesla + Rivian owner, I feel like this is an obvious oversight. I can’t get the Tesla charge door respond to my hand 4/10 times even when it’s not freezing, so the app button is essential. Maybe it can also make it into the new Gen2 fob! Here’s hoping.
With Tesla, I have never tried to open the charge door by hand. I always do it via the app or click the button on the cable while pointing it at the door. I’m pretty sure both require the vehicle to be awake. If you’re doing by hand the vehicle must awake and you need to have your mobile device or watch (as of the latest update) nearby.

When you finish a drive and put th vehicle in park, a tray appears (you can also tap it's icon in the upper-left of the screen) and you can select the charge port door from that tray.

If only there were this thing, with printed instructions, that would answer all of this. And if only they made that available so you could read it in advance BEFORE you get into a predicament. That will be a great day.

With the new AI Assistant you shouldn’t need printed instructions anymore. ?

If it's as good as Alexa, it should make it so easy to use!

Alexa, open the charge port door.

You would like to set your car on fire, ok.

Perhaps I am just a lot shorter than Rivian was expecting drivers to be but the center screen is impossible for me to reach from outside the vehicle.

That is a 4th option the Tesla has that Rivian doesn't. No problem to reach the Tesla's screen without climbing all the way back in.
Silly thought but perhaps you might simply think ahead and open the charge port before getting out of the car?

And, yes, reaching the center screen of a Model 3 from outside the car should be easier... it's tiny in comparison to an R1. But good luck off road or hauling cargo in a M3.

They just need to add the AI Assistant within the vehicle. I’m sure that’s coming soon.
