I would think that it had to be more expensive to produce and install the glass roof in the R1T than to just have a solid metal roof. The glass roof is also somewhat counter productive when it comes to air conditioning the cabin. Putting a panoramic glass roof in a pick-up truck is like unto installing a screen door in a submarine.

The first three things that we did to our R1T were:

1. Cover the glass roof. The AC works much better and you can see your phone screen.
2. Remove the aero wheel covers. The truck looks much better.
3. Remove and store the camp speaker. This takes 5# of useless weight out of the truck.

Haha you have got to be kidding.. storing the speaker to save 5lbs? This gave me a good chuckle. Y’all are insane.

No, the speaker was not stored to save 5#. It was stored because it is a useless piece of junk. The saving of 5# is its only benefit.

I live in Phx and park outside often, so the AC at Lo never cools the truck down. I did a UV tint on all the windows and windshield too. Installing a roof shade seems a little odd to me, such a nice truck just to put a $70 shade on top... And the AC is way too loud, insanely loud

Just had Spectra Photo Sync tint installed on every window on my one week old R1S. This stuff is kinda pricey, but absolutely amazing. I have had it on my Model S for 9 years and never needed to use a sunshade for my windshield. I live in Phx so sun shines a lot.

Photo Sync tint keeps out the Infrared heat (what makes it hot), but also protects against UV. Even lightest tint for use on windshield works essentially the same as the darkest tint that one might put on the sunroof.

My 2 cents... A/C compressor in both my R1T and Mach-E are comparable in performance of cooling the cabin and noise. Both also have glass roof however the Rivian provides better heat rejection.
I agree with Rivians decision to include a glass roof however moving forward I hope they roll out options for no glass and operable glass that can open and includes an operable sun shade.

Just downloaded the new OTA 22.23...I've noticed huge improvement in cooling down the T when the interior gets super hot while sitting locked up in the sun...and maintaining the temperature has also improved..Seems like they've adjusted the compressor and fan speeds....THANK YOU RIVN!!!
After 1 road trip on new R1T, A/C quit working. I did total reset and it still did not work. I am taking it in this morning for service. I think I'm too late for update to fix this.

Same thing happened to us! A/C conked out in 113-degree weather — had to drive five hours with family in scorching Arizona heat with windows wide open. R1T now in shop; no time estimate yet.

My first real gripe, I never had any issues with AC, but now it is hitting 90 regularly.... When I start the car if it is parked in the sun the AC whirs at what sounds like full speed, audible even up to 30 MPH. Seems like it was the OTA, but I could be totally wrong.

I don't think you're wrong. I'm in a heat wave in southwest Florida and mine sounds like a small turbine engine spinning up .... and this is new since the update.

Which roof shade did you go with? I was thinking about getting roof IR film tinted, suppose to block 98% heat but it runs like $300-$400.
Waste of money. I did it and it’s the same. I also installed the roof sunshade, that made an immediate difference… YMMV

One of those expandable sunshades on Amazon. Works like a charm and I can pull it out in the winter when I want it warmer in the cab.

Rivian cranking the compressor to 11 out of 10 is a dumb decision. Its totally unnecessary, especially because there appears to be zero logic built in to account for cabin temp or outside air temp. I just had auto set to 68 and AC compressor was running like wild, bumped the temp to 70 and the compressor calmed down and air from vents was the same temperature.

I can't imagine RJ hopping into his Rivian and being okay with the compressor performance and noise.

UPDATE: Rivian Service Center San Diego fixed the problem in 46 hours. Temperature sensor in the refrigerant line had to be replaced. Return trip across the Sonoran Desert was much more comfortable!!
