I haven't seen complaints about this recently, so hoping that Rivian has made an improvements since launch, and not just cost cutting.

Agreed. It's not crystal clear, especially switching from beautiful graphics pages...but then I get in my wife's '22 pilot with a screen 1/4 the size and I realize the Rivian is great.

It’s loads better than our ‘14 & ‘15 model vehicles we own… I don’t see any issues with this… It’s not meant to be a cell phone camera ?‍♂

I had a 2018 model 3 before this and it seems about on par to me?

It’s more than adequate to do the job but could be better. The worst is the backup camera in the T - borderline useless for hitching a trailer if you tow.

I would say it's pretty decent. I would liken it to a forward facing phone camera with a fish eye lens, blown up on a large display.

It does the job well.

I would never consider the camera quality bad by any means. Have I seen better quality in other applications? yes. Am I upset in any way with the quality of mine? Not in the least.

They did recently push an update that improved the front camera picture/viewing field.

I had my front bumper camera replaced (VIN ~7000) due to moisture, and I swear the new one is far clearer than the original ever was. Makes me wonder if they found a better quality camera to install for current and future models.

I'd like to see how well the cameras do as dash cams. Specifically, how close does a vehicle need to be to make out the license plate. It works o.k. when my R1 is sitting in a parking lot. Even my 4K dash cam on another vehicle can have trouble with plate unless the vehicle is fairly close.

Not terrible, not great. My biggest complaint on the cameras right now is that they really need to do some sort of HDR-type processing. The front camera is useless trying to enter my garage until about half the truck is already inside because the rear cameras see bright light and it's dark in the garage. Rather than processing each image separately they're just balancing the exposure to the brightest one and to hell with the dark/shadowed cameras.

I am in a loaner right now while my 66xx VIN truck gets some done on it.

The loaner has a 13xxx VIN and seems to have a higher quality rear camera. It could be purely anecdotal, but I do wonder if there was a quiet hardware iteration at some point ?‍♂

In any case, I really like the forest green interior with the lighter wood on the dash. Fun to try something different for a few days!

That tracks with my replacement front bumper camera seemingly being better quality than the original.

My front camera got smashed today by a rock. What was the replacement process/cost?

Because mine was considered a manufacturer defect (moisture and humidity should not be able to get inside the lens), it was covered under warranty and cost me nothing.
