But there are definitely day to day usage things that are really annoying, such as the audio not working when you first start up in the morning without changing playlists or something as there's literally no way to get it to play the same thing you were playing when you hopped out the night before. This one has persisted for a few updates and no amount of infotainment rebooting seems to fix it.
I'm guessing some of the issues here, and for the OP, are around them breaking up the driver profiles to include the audio apps. The behavior seems kind of weird when switching profiles, and the profile switching seems to happen a lot due to phone key proximity.

I only recently added a profile for my wife, but my audio issues existed long before that. But I could totally see how it could cause problems. Wife's Mach-E just the other day used my profile correctly, but then connected to CarPlay with her phone...it was weird.

Maybe they should just take away Contacts. Then no one could complain that it doesn't work.

Sort of like the gubberment cancelling the jobs report (and any of those other reports they cancelled). Can't complain that jobs are bad if there's no metric for reporting on them. 😆

I 💀 at the "Gary changing faces on the energy screen" tho. That is pretty useless. 🤣

I am also with you OP. The software is one of the most disappointing things about my April 2025 build R1T. It just seems like Rivian made really bad decisions to start with and that is why we have what we have. I am not seeing any meaningful UI improvements with each month's software updates, even thought rivian claims improvements. I come from Teslas and my other car is a Mercedes EQS with carplay on a beautiful huge OLED screen. What Tesla has done with their software is incredible. Such a smooth and easy to use UI, it is a pleasure to use and is so reliable. I like it more than carplay.

I think software is one of the things that will hold the R2 back from achieving the success of Model Y. Rivian should rethink not supporting Carplay if only as a stopgap measure to make the R2 more appealing to new buyers. Then, use the time to hire a new team to rethink the software that we use every time we use our Rivians. Wassym needs to go, it's time for new leadership (poach Tesla engineers) and people who can execute and deliver a truly amazing interface.

I’m with ya man. Most of the fanboys that frequent this site won’t be. I get to compare Rivian software with my Tesla software so I’m biased. Rivian team are the B leaguers
Yeah, over a 10-year head start in software development time, that shouldn't matter, right? right?!?

I agree that the software is slow and buggy but my biggest complaint is the app. The functions hardly EVER work. I always run into some sort of error that the vehicle is offline or non-responsive when I try to do anything via the app. It's definitely less than 50/50 whenever I try to unlock via the app or turn on the AC or vent the windows or ANYTHING. Why doesn't this work!?

I'm pretty forgiving to Rivian's software issues because they're a young, unprofitable, high-growth company and they do a great job constantly updating and improving the software. A completely different vehicle experience vs. when I got the truck 3-4 years ago.

All that said, I do agree they could allocate more resources towards quality of life improvements and bug bashing. I wouldn't at all mind if there was a bit of a cooldown in new feature releases vs. if the release notes just said "Lots of bug fixes" for a bit... :)

This is very much a YMMV sort of thing. Not trying to invalidate your concerns, but as far as software issues, it could be MUCH worse. I have the fortune of driving several cars on a day to day basis, and each of them have their own quirky and annoying bugs. And by my own personal metric, Rivian is actually consistently one of the best. Not perfect, but better than most. And only getting better.

As others have said, try doing a software reset or contact service. You may able to find solutions to your problems that way.

Software is a problem everywhere. Our BMW I4 2 weeks ago said 'Bluetooth, none for you'. Had to re-associate all phones. Total pain the ass but what am I supposed to do with it? Nothing.

I don't use the Sirius App so can't offer anything on that. Our Gen2 R1S Spotify and phone have been fine. The Gear guard stopped working, the USB died and I had to restart the infotainment for it see the new USB. But now it is fine.

I'm not adding any more to Rivian's dinner plate, but casting locks my car up quite often.

I don't mind driving around with black screens until I reset though.
