@JJE did the service center isolate the issues for you or did you have to diagnose yourself and have them address each section ?

does anyone have a whistling noise?
The whistling is definitely the cross bars.

@Prime I am at Costa Mesa service center also. They aren’t the best to deal with. Been having a nightmare delivery and can’t get the issues resolved.
Sorry to hear that. We are not alone.. I’ve read several pretty bad CS experiences at Costa Mesa. They need to improve. Maybe it’s why they aren’t even taking appointments anymore for service. Hope they do some major restructuring.

I led the effort but the service center at Gaithersburg MD was responsive. The replacement of the quarter windows in the front was done specifically to address buffeting.

The rear door adjustment was an accidental discovery. The two rear doors were slightly out of alignment and needed a hard slam to close. You could see from the swage line that the doors were hanging about 0.5 cm too low. Once this was fixed the car truly was as quiet as a vault.

It's bad at 70. It gets worse above 95. My R1S has had a similar issues since delivery. Took it to SC twice and they say it's normal for a car this size but like you, I've had similar large cars without the wind noise. Rivian called me a few weeks ago and said they would chase it down with the engineering dept and see if it's a more common problem.

Forgot to mention it was almost non existent on the loaner R1T I got. Friends' new R1S has exactly the same issue.

This needs to be a sticky and we need to consolidate complaints so Rivian can address.

My R1S has really bad wind noise in the cabin. At first I thought maybe it’s just not an aerodynamic vehicle. But I’ve driven big cars like Expedition and Rovers that are not aerodynamic and all much quieter. I recently got my car back from service and notice a whistling sound. Almost like a sound the kettle makes. I have a ticket for service. I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue? And is loud cabin just a Rivian build quality thing?
R1T - day one was loud noise I'm taking in for review in a couple weeks...... also - when I put the cross bars on top - OMG like a 747 loud noise - taking them back off until I need them.

My R1T wind noise has been an issue from day one. Several tickets/adjustments and seal replacements has gotten subtly better. No racks. It's noticable enough that taking phone calls at highway speeds is difficult to hear at top volume. Probably my biggest complaint. I have 22's and my other EV doesn't make this kinda noise. Have a loaner right now with 600 miles on it and it's just as bad but has AT tires.

yes, mine has recently developed a whistle coming from the passenger side. it seemed to start once it got a little colder here, so thinking it might be something to do with the weather strip shrinking or alignment of the door. i haven't created a ticket yet, but i may soon.

I asked about this at the SC and they said they can "re-calibrate" the windows. I would talk to the SC and have them recal all the windows, there is a calibration to tell the motor to STOP rolling up, if that is not accurate, then the window may not be fully closed.

I had extreme wind noise from around the driver's side door at speeds above 60. Sounded like the window was open.

I took it in for service and as I was explaining the situation the tech looked at the door and I could see a large gap at the top of the door that he was checking out. They fixed it in a day and it's super quiet now
This was what I experienced too at highway speeds. Figured out where it was coming from. The service writer needed to know if it was happening at or near posted speeds or higher. Told me if it was at higher speed 75+ then it is to be expected. If not there was a problem.
It turned out the weather seal on the passenger door was deformed. Replaced it now it’s quiet again.

Good to hear. I've had my R1S for a month and have the exact same thing. Service appointment next month, so hoping for a similar result.

I installed the Rivian cross bars last weekend. Even at low speeds, the whistle is very prevalent. Taking them off until needed.

Rather disappointed with the noise. I expected some, but this is ridiculously loud.

I have the cross bars toward the front of the vehicle. I wonder if the wind noise will reduce if I move it toward the rear of the vehicle?

First, try taking the crossbars off and see if that's the cause. If the whistling goes away, then play around with fore & aft positioning. If it's still there, have the SC take a look at identifying the cause.

First, try taking the crossbars off...
This.

Not only the noise will reduce, it will increase efficiency while driving as well. The crossbars adds to the drag, no matter how "aerodynamic" it is. This is true not just on Rivian but on all vehicles. Its physics.

I had CMSC deal with wind noise above 50 mph. They replaced all the weather stripping around the doors. It helped but I also added my own on top of the existing.

That said, my noise issue was buffeting sounds, not whistling sound. The latter is very common with any roof rack, assuming that the windows are sealed properly.

Like suggested, just drive for a bit without the crossbars and see it that takes care of the noise. If so, then you can play around with the position, like the @SteveInBend recommends.

Mine had a loud noise today on my way to work. When I got to work, there was a big chunk of ice frozen to the part just above the windshield on the passengers side. I removed it. When I drove it home tonight, no noise. Will post back if it reappears.
No wind noise this morning. Must have been the chunk of ice.
