I had my 7500 mile service with tire rotation recently performed in my driveway by a mobile tech - came to $235.40. Reasonable IMO.

2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

Good to know! With dealer-purchased vehicles, we had always had like, 3-years / 36,000 miles of free routine maintenance. Did not know what to expect for the Rivian. I am just hitting 5.500 miles now.

Hey everyone,
Wondering what everyone's maintenance costs are? I have my first 7500 mile service (tire rotation + multi point inspection) and Rivian is quoting me $235.00. That seems a bit high to me. Is that normal?
I'm literally hanging out at my SC right now as they do my 22,500 mile routine maintenance _without_ a tire rotation (which costs extra) and that's the same as I've been quoted. I do think it's the sort of thing that ought to be folded into the warranty, but it's not out of line and I don't grudge it. (My home AC/furnace warranty _requires_ that I pay for a twice-yearly maintenance visit. Just life in 2025.) At least the SC is comfortable and snacks are provided!

Did my first check and rotation with rivian. Similar price. My tire shop rotated my tires for free 7500 miles later. Haven't bought tires for the rivian from them, but I've bought a lot of others. Easier to schedule with the tire shop.

My plan going forward is to have rivian do about every third 7500 rotation and the multipoint. The others with my tire shop.

$235 is "normal" pending average shop rates in your area. Of course you can find lower cost elsewhere for the more generic stuff like tire rotation... like at Discount Tire. But, Discount Tire have messed up many cars because not all of their locations and techs pay attention to Rivian-specific lifting procedures.

Not sure why anyone would need a multipoint inspection for ANY vehicle at 7,500 miles? Sounds like a total boondoggle to me.

That said, if you don't already have the tools, a DIY tire rotation can cost you $500+ in tools alone by the time you buy the jack pucks, hydraulic floor jack(s), and torque wrench plus your labor time, but it's a one-time expense at least.

Since you're in MD, note that tire rotations are free @Pep Boys if you buy at least 1 tire from them and only $9.99 if you buy them from tirerack.com (usually can't be beat) and have them shipped there for installation and balancing; however, be advsised that Pep Boys won't touch your Rivian if you install aftermarket rocksliders and running boards, since they don't want to accept liabiiity for jacking it up w/o the factory jack puck plastic access ports which are removed in installation since you can jack up the truck anywhere on the rocksliders.

I havent made it to 7500 miles yet but is there a reason I can’t take the Rivian to the same place I take my tesla for a tire rotation? They don’t charge nearly that much.

You need it on a vehicle made by a company that is still relatively new to manufacturing and mass production. You need it for a line of vehicles that has rolling changes and multiple service bulletins for various potential issues, with no clear info on affected VIN range, like hub bolts working their way loose and making contact with other components, or a defective leaky damper. Inspection can catch problems early, both known and not-known issues. Early enough to be covered by warranty. How much was spent to buy/lease the car? Why is 235 dollar inspection suddenly a problem? Did you all stretch yourselves too far to have one?

Do you spend a little for periodic dental check up or do you do nothing until you discover you need oral surgery?

Speaking as a pre-order Gen1 owner with 50k+ miles on my R1S, and whose expectations from day 1 has been a *beta tester*, it's a boondoogle. Never needed it on ANY other vehicle by ANY other vehicle manufacturer, and if Rivian does find it necessary, then it should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty since there is no dealership model unlike legacy auto manufacturers.

In general, dealers OVERCHARGE for EVERY service, so I wouldn't be taking any of my vehicles to a dealer unless it was already covered by warranty or prepaid service agreement let alone a simple tire rotation which can be done by any other shop that has jack pucks or willing to do it w/ provided jack pucks.

You are being ripped off, and this is ridiculous pricing. I've even owned a new BMW, this is more expensive if you use Rivian service. I would never do that, other than warranty.

Our R1S now with just over 28k miles. $0 spent on routine service. Tires rotated every 7500 miles initially at Discount/America's Tire for free, and tires replaced once at Costco (Michelin Defender LTX M/S2) and rotated once there.

These EVs do not need much in the way of service. Our 8 yrs old Tesla is going for service for the FIRST time next week due to some rubbing sound from the back when the vehicle is starting to move and low coolant. Other than that no maintenance required (again wear item such as tires aside).

If the vehicle is running fine, there is really no need for any EVs to be serviced on a routine periodic intervals (e.g., 7.5K, 15K, 22.5K, 30K miles and so on).

I did my first inspection at 22.5k miles (also replaced the 12V battery). I was headed on a long road trip and wanted to make sure nothing was loose or needed to be replaced. I think it was worth it but I won't do it every 7.5k miles.

I don't think that there was a 7500 mile service when I bought my LE R1T in 2022. I think that the more frequent service intervals came along later.

My personal service interval for Arty is 60K, which it is getting now.

Recommend maintenance schedule wasn’t published until much later, something like early ‘24.

The awesome thing about Rivian service is that you pay a lot extra to have it be super slow, and you may not actually get the service done or done right. Win-win.
