Well, unfortunately when I was changing out my all weather mats, I immediately noticed that the bottom of them were covered in water. Upon further investigation, the driver and passenger carpet is also covered in a white mold (some in the center but most is up along the edge right before going under the seat). I stopped dealing with the mats to figure out what I need to do to get this resolved.

A few questions:

1) Has anyone else dealt with this on either a Gen 1 or Gen 2?
2) If so, what was the fix?
3) How have you guys figured is the best way to get issues like this resolved quickly since it’ll only cause more damage to the vehicle?

Thanks!

oh boy, they still having this issue? in most cases its due to rain water getting into the cabin typically somewhere through the roof of the vehicles. did it rain recently or maybe you went through the car wash?

you should open a service ticket immediately.

Sadly, my G1 R1S is in the Service Center right now for the same issue. I thought it was resolved with the G2, but I guess not. Basically the HVAC unit is filling with condensation and it's spilling onto the carpeting. A couple of thoughts for you:
  • Make a service appointment as soon as possible - lead times can be tough!
  • Use a ShopVac or handheld carpet cleaner to suck up as much water as possible
  • Use old towels to blot up even more moisture
  • Hopefully you're in a garage - Leave all windows open and put some fans blowing on the carpeting to dry it out
  • Here's the REALLY sucky part for you: Don't use the A/C until it's fixed. We got lucky in PA with a cold snap so we were able to live without A/C (at least I did). My wife knew that I'd clean it up if the carpet got soaked again so she wasn't shy about using the A/C. I don't know what the threshold is for how long you can use the A/C before it leaks. She was okay with 15-minute sessions - no more water on the carpet (I checked after each time she took the Rivian out)
  • Also - Check the passenger side...In ours both sides in the front were soaked. I caught it pretty quickly because I never put our all-weather mats in and we still use the Chilewich mats and the water leaked through.
Good luck - we have a slight moldy smell in the car (with similar white water marks on the carpeting), but it's not awful. I asked the service rep when I dropped if off if they'd be replacing the carpeting and she said it depends...Sometimes they have to and others they send it to a detailer and they shampoo the carpeting and are successful. I also asked them to replace our Chilewich mats up front because they smell moldy. We'll see if that happens...

Confirmed not resolved in Gen 2…sadly. Maybe a shorter repair time since a possible known issue?! One can hope.

My guess is that it’s probably the HVAC issue because the AC is constantly running here in FL. I made a service appointment and hope to hear something from someone tomorrow. The appointment is not until 9/20, which is not going to work for me.

Practically I get cleaning it up and trying to dry it out. I’d also like the SC to see the issue. Not necessary given the photos speak for themselves?

No chance we cannot use the AC. The cabin gets to high 120s. We have no option but to use the vehicle. Really an unfortunate situation.

Just FYI. I am in Miami. Got the soaking wet floor a couple of weeks ago. Initial appointment was post Thanksgiving but I called back and said it's Aug/Sept, I have an hour and half commute and wear dress clothes. And the moldy smell was taking over. I sweated my way to work with windows down for a week but they moved the appointment up and I should get it back tomorrow.

Got the 12V fail, now the A/C fail, what's next?

My truck was in for this, rivian replaced the HVAC box (said it was cracked) and the carpeting in front. No issues in my truck since. I have an early vin gen 1 R1T.
Service center told me in some trucks it was a stopped up and/or improperly installed HVAC drain line causing this too.

Rivian needs to get this in ASAP to clean up the water. I was told by Rivian they have a redesigned HVAC assembly so I'm surprised to see this happening on a Gen2. I was told the HVAC assemblies had a problem with cracking and this caused water to leak out until the floor instead of out and away from the vehicle as designed.

Rivian wound up replacing my wife's R1S over this issue earlier this year.

My R1T is going in 9/16 for the same issue. Luckily, there is a very strong wet vac at the car wash near my house. I’m stopping by daily to keep it under control.

The wetness is definitely worse when it’s humid and I’m running the A/C a lot.

The other thing I did when we had to take the Rivian for a 3-hour trip while this was happening was to put a dishtowel flat under the Chilewich mat to help soak up the water. I was able to wring it out halfway through our trip and replaced it with a dry one. It made drying the carpeting much faster that evening.

@SSpearsAU - The Service Center won't have to see how wet the carpeting gets...your photos (and the white water marks) will confirm the water issue.

I sent a message on the app asking to move the appointment up. Do you know if that goes to the Service Center that the scheduled appointment is made at, or does that go to a general messaging service? Still no response from it, either way. Hoping I hear something soon. Will keep everyone posted.

I scheduled through the app and uploaded my pictures, then called the next day (a Friday). The service center moved my appointment up and I dropped the truck off four days later (Tuesday).

So not only does the AC suck in these cars, it leaks and causes mold too? I’m about to just write off my $500 and move on to something else at this point.

We didn't have any issues with the A/C for a full year of ownership and Rivian is making good on fixing it for us when we did have an issue. I'm not in Phoenix (although I've spent a summer there) but our car has reached 120F when parked in the sun and the A/C cooled it off just fine. Even when it was soaking my carpeting, the A/C worked to keep the car cool. I think people would notice the wet carpeting much more quickly if the A/C stopped working with this issue. It's also much harder to notice if you have the all-weather (i.e. waterproof) mats in your ride.

You do you...I'm sure Rivian would refund your deposit unless you already have a confirmed build.
