I am a new owner of a R1T that is expected in the next 4 weeks. I have a NEMA 14-50 plug already from my previous Teslas and hoping it will work for home charging ? Any thoughts? Thanks

Should work the same, so long as it's a high quality plug (the kind you can't get at home depot). The cheap live you can get at the hardware store aren't robust enough to handle being pushed to the limit on a daily basis (like ev charging)

The Rivian mobile charger (no longer included for free, sadly) has the same 14-50 plug.

I'm always a huge proponent for hard wired charging. Less prone to fire hazard.

It will. The mobile connector comes with a standard 120v and a 240v NEMA 14-50 connector.

Assuming you’re buying directly from Rivian…
MY25s come with portable chargers
MY26s you’ll need to buy one separately

I had my Rivian Wall Charger hardwired on a 60 Amp/240 VAC breaker with #6 AWG copper wiring.

Your 14-50R (receptacle) with appropriate gage wire: If it was done properly for your Tesla, would be no different for the Rivian Mobile charger.

Visit the State of charge YouTube site and look at the fires caused by NEMA 14-50 plugs. As the first poster said, make sure it’s a high quality plug and correctly installed, or get a hard-wired EVSE.

For the OP,

If concerned about heat..... see if the plug is getting hot at 20 minutes and then again at 60 minutes.
If it feels like you can hold it indefinitely then all is fine. Yes it may get pretty warm.

It should be noted that the Rivian mobile EVSE is limited to 32a, as are most other portables. This should have far less of an impact on plug temp compared to using the max of 40a on a 14-50.

Home Depot, I think Lowe’s does carry an EV specific plug. Spend the extra $. Make sure the connection is torqued correctly and inspect torque at 2-3 months, then annually thereafter

Even if hardwired, the connection should be inspected regularly

If time isn’t an issue, consider charging at a lower rate.

This is excellent advice.
